I finally got a chance to test out a few of the .177 H&N pellets I bought from Nikonos recently. I used my 953 at 10m, fully rested.
First up were the excite hammer (a budget pellet, round nosed with a pleated skirt). 5 shots made a ragged hole of about 3 diameters - very respectable for a cheap pellet.

Next I tried the match rifle, 5 rounds in each of two targets:

The top target is basically a single enlarged hole of about one and a quarter diameters, the bottom target is two diameters. It could easily have been me that pulled one shot.
Finally the match pistol, five rounds each again.

As with the previous set, one target is single enlarged hole, the other has a flier which opened it up to about 2 diameters.
I'm pretty happy with all of those results. The budget pellet is perfectly usable (I've never really liked dry fire practice, so a cheap pellet is kind of handy), and both of the match pellets are very good indeed. I'll need to do a whole load of scored single targets to work out if one is really better than the other in each of my guns.
Now, if I could just hit the
middle of the target...
