.....I was asked to post pictures, so here they are.......The finished one is shown as normal and then extended......The worklight stand is on the ground fully 'collapsed' to show how compact it is. Actually, the worklights are removeable with 2 knobs and the power cord with 1 screw....so the stand can remain dual purpose by simply clamping a cardboard 'beer flat' to the cross piece using big 'paper/folder' spring clamps (Staples or any stationary store).....place targets on cardboard and blast away, maybe add some weight for stability....like a bag of used pellets, if needed.................Thumper.........

How about using old music stands, remember those metal ones from music class?
If I remember right they collapsed down quite compactly too

....I have a couple of music stands kicking around somewhere, but they don't extend to 5'5" for 10m 'standing'....they are fairly solid but the tripod base is small and the idea is for an outdoor stand so it has to be fairly robust or heavy enough to be stable..............A patio umbrella base could hold a pvc frame(like a 'drop/turn') as long as you didn't have to cart it around, I suppose...........Thumper
