Is anyone making lightweight delrin or nylon pcp hammers? I have a Bam b-50 that I am thinking of going the light weight route with lighter spring as well as hammer and spring guide.
Thanx....Dan

I don't know anyone making these, but would suggest that a roller bearing or similarly hard, durable piece of steel be inserted firmly into the face for longevity of the hammer. A common bolt is likely to mushroom out in use. And a lighter spring with a light hammer? Perhaps useful if you have enough preload on the spring, but going too light on the spring with a very light hammer might not knock open the valve.

You will need to reduce the OD of the poppet to use lighter components.... The reason for the heavy stock components is the large sealing surface, which requires a large force to knock it open.... In addition, if you don't replace the valve spring with one that won't go coil bound, you will likely destroy the poppet as the hammer tries to open it further than the spring will allow.... That, IMO, is the reason for the very common poppet failures in those guns....

Thanx for the tips! I really would like to reduce the cocking effort which is very high. I did swap out the spring for a marauder spring and did get the reduction in cocking but also a big drop in velocity..much bigger than expected. I hope the lighter components along with the marauder spring will perform OK. Bob, I did read about the poppet size and valve spring also needing to be dealt with...I'm sure I will have other questions!

Bandit, show us a picture. Could you possibly do a spring inside a spring. Both a bit lighter then the stock spring. Does this gun have an RVA. And Gerard's right about having a tough and hard surface to open the valve. I have some Titanium if you want. It is $5.00 and inch though! Very tough but light as aluminum and strong as steel.

Listen to Bob! Bob is the King of PCP!

If your velocity is too low now, it will drop even further if you lighten the hammer.... Reducing the OD of the poppet makes a big difference.... As you lighten the hammer, to get the same velocity at a given pressure you need more spring and the cocking effort goes up....

I have a light hammer and guide on the way. I also have a regulator that I never used in my .22 mrod and after thinking about it, I would be foolish not to use it in the b50. I am going too have to get it turned down a bit to fit the b50. Work has kept me so busy that I have not had a chance to let you all know that I have read your responses and appreciate them. Thank you...Dan
