Good afternoon to all you Weirauch HW97K airgunners.

From your experience with your 97Ks, may I request a list of your best recommendation for the top three pellets, each, for the HW97K in .22 and .177.

Brand/model/diameter/weight details would be really appreciated.

I have about 700 shots on the .22 and 600 on the .177 and I am not happy with my group sizes.

I have tried Crosman Premier Hollow Points in both calibers, which were recommended per my online search, but they could only do 1.5 inch 5-shot 17 meter groups occasionally, usually much worse. I shoot at an indoor range, that's why 17 meter is maximum, and shot groups off a ZERO Caldwell rest.

I like to think that I am a half-decent shooter, so these shotgun pattern-like groups are disappointing, specially from my HW97s. At the same range, on a good day (for me that means enough sleep, no hangover, one cup of coffee) my CZ452 Scout and Savage MKIGY could do one-hole groups, roughly, big half inch diameter holes, using Winchester Xpert 333 bulk. Handheld, elbow resting on bench. These little .22LRs could probably shoot better from a rest.

Eventually I would like to shoot outdoors again, range up to 50 meters. So I'd like pellets that would be accurate to 50 meters, but I'd be happy to group 1/2" at 25 meters.

The pellets will be mostly for target practice on paper, so terminal ballistics are not as important as accuracy.

Thank you in advance.

If you might accept a suggestion from someone who knows nothing about springers except what I have read... I only own one, bought for the experience of trying it out, and can't shoot it worth a s**t.

The Caldwell rest MAY be part of the problem. Rather than trying to explain it myself, browse the forum and Google for "artillery hold". The rest may be inhibiting the gun from moving the way it wants to.

Good comment. As for pellets, Try a variety of JSBs before looking elsewhere. I believe D&L still sells samplers. All HW97s are not alike, so any details may not be the right details for your two rifles. Testing is the only true way, and JSB is the best place to start.

I was shooting with the artillery hold, elbow on the bench, before I got the rest. Same large groups. I was shooting Crossman Premier Hollow Points both .22 and .177 that many shooters say were accurate on their 97s.

So now I'd like to try different pellets.

Just checked DLairgun for JSB sampler. None.

For the HW97 in .22 try H&N Field Target Trophy in the wider head sizes -- the 5.55 and 5.54mm. Many shooters report that they get better results with these pellets than any others. For the .177 try different head sizes in H&N FTT and JSB Exact.

Ok gentlemen, I just ordered these from CAF Store. Shipping and insurance to BC was $22.00 instead of the $40, default shipping on their website, and no tax as well. Not bad. Thanks for all your advice. Will update whenever.

1 x JSB Diabolo Exact Jumbo Express .22 /5.52/250
1 x JSB Diabolo Exact .177/4.51/500
1 x JSB Diabolo Exact Jumbo RS .22/5.52/500
1 x JSB Diabolo Exact .177/4.52/500
1 x JSB Diabolo Exact .177/4.53/500
1 x JSB Match Diabolo Rifle .177/4.52/500

If they don't make my two bad boys happy, I'll get some H&N FTTs from DLairguns.

My HW97 Blackline prefers JSB Cometa 4.51mm pellets to all others, except for the Predators - also very accurate.

The .22 HW98 prefers H&N Barracuda HP's, the 19.09 grain variety. It also likes Predator pellets & shoots the Crossman HP's 1/2 reasonably well for cheap practice to 25 yards.

I hope my HW97s will like at least one of different diameter/style JSBs I ordered from CAF Store, which some say are not as good as the Cometa JSBs, (wonder why not?)

The Predators are quite too pricey for my intended use which is plinking and short range target up to 25 meters and accasionally 50 meters.

Main reason I like to shoot airguns is because pellets are 1/4 to 1/3 the price of .22 LR. If pellets exceed half the price of .22LR, I'll just shoot 22LR.

I am a little disappointed my HW97s don't shoot the less expensive Crosman Premier Hollow Points as well as other guys 97s. Many online reviews say the most accurate pellets out of their HW97s are CPHPS (in 22 and 177), so I figured I'd invest in a couple of nice 97s.

The CPHP .177s shoot fine (not great) in my Diana 45 Original, Diana 45/34 and CZ630. I have 27 year old pellets from the Philippines (Laser brand Silver Streak .177s) that shoot better than CPHPs in the Dianas and CZ.

Try all you can. Like I said, my rifle preferred and does best with Cometa 4.51's. It does not shoot as well with standard JSB Diabolos 4.51". It WANTS Cometa 4.51's.

It does almost as good with Predators, which have worked on field rats to 56yards, for head and chest hits.

All that was with the Blackline Stock. I now have a thumbhole Birch stock on it - it might change preference, or not. Time will tell.
