Forgive this question if it's dumb or beginner-ish please. But what exactly is "recoiless single shot pre-compressed technology" ?

In pure terms, single stroke pneumatic.
Stoeger used their definition as a selling point for the XP4 which appears to be a dressed up P17.

Finally bought one today! First impressions are mitigated, I even feel a bit disappointed... I'll do a complete review/test and comparison vs the P17 in the review section.

Ah, and for those wondering (wait for it, wait for it  ), YES it's a dressed up P17, but... not quite :|

To remove all doubts, once and for all, I found this, laser etched on the barrel:

I have to say it looks quite good ~ very modern designs and I like it ~

Just want to see how reliable it will be ~

I already put thousands of shots each on my HW40 and the P3, never met any issues so far... But I remember I just kept tuning / fixing my P17 previously until I let it go...

Then maybe you don't want the XP4  The ergonomy and aesthetics are nice, but the global quality is less IMO than the P17. I completely took mine apart even before shooting it because I didn't trusted it. And I found some ugly things:

Double seals looks is a good design, but I think a full size piston would be better than the thin stick arm...

And metal shavings means bad quality control?! Because it's shavings, not burrs or sharp edges... I will be looking forward for your long term user review as yours got a good start, and hopefully it will last longer and shoots better ~

YepYep, I wondered why it was no longer on your list of guns.

I met something strange finally, something inside looks worn or loosed, but I can't tell where... after cocking, it might keep the air for long, but while you touch it, the air might or might not leak completely from the valve...

But usually you can make a quick aim and shoot in some seconds but who knows it will leak or not... And the first some shots in the day looks normal...

I tried some ways to fix it but all failed...

Then at the time another forum member looking for a P17 as part to fix his broken frame P17, I gave mine to him...

Silly question....

Anyone know what that threaded hole is just beside the breech ?

Also to add to quality etc.
My XP4 seems to be pretty accurate, but I do have to tap both the Hammer pin (cocking level release) and the pin that holds the breech and piston end after about 50 shots or so.

Cheers

If you look closely into that threaded hole, you should see a set screw which is there to hold the rear pivot pin. If there's no set screw, then I guess it's why the rear pin on your gun keeps popping out of the hole.

Sounds like the quality control leaves a lot to be desired.
