My special Kurtz version of the Walther LP53....495 Fps

There are a few people on the forum who are looking for LP53s; how would you compare the two? Is this version currently available? Any more insight you're willing to provide?

Its very much better than the regular LP53...mainly due to the internal reworking, having a much smoother firing cylcle and reduction in slam...all vibration twang reduced to zero.
A stock LP53 can be very accurate once mastered but this does not have the same need for the mastering or the same level of hold sensitivity.
The shortening of the barrel not something i would recommend unless having the sense of precision and care with machine work that i acquired as an ex Gunsmith..

The rifled length is still exactly the same as a stock 53. Its simply had its front 60 mm void machined off.
Running between centres on a Lathe, using brass running centres so not to damage the breech.
The 60 mm length removed, with the front sight attached, was simply up drilled using 9, 10 and 12 mm drills until the front sight simply fell off .....a bit hairy for a few moments that.
Barrel muzzle was then machined exactly the same as stock, complete with the little 8mm x 2 mm step ....so that it looked like it was done by the factory.
Entire barrel was re- blued ...
Finally sight was fixed akin to a fullbore rifle....drilled and tapped for a single screw into the small amount of void i had left at the muzzle....approx 3/8 inch of void ...
This little bit of remaining void just enough so that the cocking knob can still be inserted..
Weeks of planning...

Gun is better balanced....pocketable ...more handy...at 9.5 inches instead of almost 13

Final internals are identified as being a HW30 spring chopped and flattened/ polished to 18 coils....with a Delrin guide rod machined as a running fit over the stock guide and and gentle shove fit into the spring. The dimension of this guide is 12.70 mm x 60 mm of lenght to go inside the spring and the base is 18.80 x 5 mm thick before the spring becomes bound at approx 8 mm thick...so went 3 mm light with my pre load at 5 mm.
Its super smooth, no vibration and the low friction Delrin releases all the spring energy.
The guide also acts as a nice thrust bearing being free to spin on the inner stock steel guide.
Its also way stronger than other Delrin guides due to the internal steel guide shoring up its strength.
507 fps with 8 grain pellets ...

That is a beautiful pistol! If you ever decide to part with it.....

Its interesting that almost all the vintage gun shooters cried sacrilege when they knew i was going to do this but all wanted the gun when seing it.
Its the length that the LP53 should have been.
Ive since moved on the internal mods to a virtual recoiless 512 fps but at the margins now.
3/4" gps right out to 15 yds ...
Ground and lapped finish to a stainless steel guide with Delrin thruster.
Extra weight of Stainless guide in grip cap acts as weight in the right place below the spring movement, as opposed to the optional barrel weight which simply spoiled the barrel finish and in the wrong place to impact the recoil.
