But I need to say the Pellgunoil 's soft tube is very handy and easy to use~ maybe we can at least buy one and reuse it on the 30W motor oil ~ yeah ~

And what's the ND means on the 30W-ND motor oil? I usually use Mobile-1 5W-30 for my car. Can I use the same to replace Pellgunoil?

I dip a q-tip in the litre bottle and smear on the P17 piston body. Been doing this for many years. Works fine.

The ND means non-detergent. I would use the 30W-ND rather than a multi-grade oil. It's so cheap that a litre will last you and some friends for many years. Put some in an eye dropper bottle or clean nasal spray bottle or something.

At $5 for 1/4 oz of Pellgun Oil, you are paying equivalent of $676 per litre. That's not a very good deal for a lubricating oil.

And can i use this motor oil on co2 cartridge then ?

Yup... it is the same product as Pellgun Oil. Use it wherever you would use Pellgun Oil. When I shot CO2 guns I would put a drop on the end of the powerlets before inserting. When bulk filling my TAU-7 and TAU-200 I would put a drop on the pin before charging the chamber with CO2.

Tell ya if the P17 came in a .22...I'd be all over it...but at this time I'm just not interested in a.177 single shot.

Myself I'd stick with a silicone based oil and stay away from any petroleum based.

8430 is stated for use in air compressors (a very high o-ring count application), thus is a great lubrication product for SPP's air guns!!

Certainly, a good 30W-ND motor oil could also work well...lets see, where did I put that red-dye in the workshop!??

For a 22 P1, I doubt it can have enough power... if just a sub 400fps, maybe 320...350 (the size of the P17 looks can't offer a big power plant..), it won't be a good thing. ..

The Weihrauch HW40 was (& still might be) available in .22 calibre. Velocity rating is only 305 fps.

Back about 12 years ago there was a group of guys on the yellow forum who started the experimenting with .22cal rimfire barrel liners in the M2004/P17 pistols. A 10" barrel would push the light 11.9gr RWS Hobby at approx 350 fps. Heavier pellets like the CPHP would be down around 310-320fps.

The SSP power plant in a pistol is mild for .22cal but it still might suit some purposes. The SSP Daisy 717 was once available as a .22cal and called the 722. The Webley Nemesis was available in .22cal as well.

It's funny how P17 threads start with a specific topic that gets exhausted and then it becomes an information source for other P17/P3 information. I enjoy reading everything I can about this interesting pistol design. In a few months I'll have had my P3 for 19 years and the P17 for 8.

If you want a powerful recoil-less .22 pistol you could do worse that buying a Webley Alecto in .22.

A multi pump pneumatic it can reach close to 495 fps with CPHPs at 3 pumps with the proper adjustments.

Although it is a lot pricier than a P17 - it can be comparable in price to a P3 if bought used...

Here is something new that flows along with the original poster's topic. I didn't hijack on this one.

I recently checked the bore sizes on my P3 and P17 pistols. First I measured out some CPHP pellets to find something smallish. I found one that measured .176” at the widest and .175” at the narrowest across the head. This pellet will drop freely into the barrel of both pistols to a flush position (skirt flush). I can shake the sloppy pellet out of either barrel with a couple of taps on the outside frame. Next I found a pellet that was .177” at the widest and .176” at the narrowest part of the head. This pellet would not drop to flush in either barrel but it drops a bit deeper in the P17 barrel. I went back and forth with the same pellet and got the same results. When done the "drop test", I pushed the pellet flush in the P17 barrel and it only required a very light bit of pressure. I used a bamboo skewer down the barrel to remove the pellet and tested it in the P3. It dropped part way into the barrel and required noticeably more pressure to seat it in this barrel. It didn’t require enough pressure to put a mark on my finger but it was about perfect for my standards. The P3 barrel is definitely a tiny bit tighter... but both barrels are good shooters.

I can’t push pellets down these barrels to measure skirt width because the breach end of the barrel doesn’t line up with the square hole in the back of the frame. Skewers won’t work and I’m not pushing from the muzzle on these great shooting pistols. The barrels are definitely not sloppy. They both perform well with .177" pellets.

I searched the whole Can-Tires website and found only one SAE30 single grade oil in MotorMaster brand...

But I noticed that there is a Air Tool oil from Lucas. But there is no information regarding its grade and what based etc...

If it's similar, I trust Lucas more than MotorMaster...

MotoMaster brand will be fine. I bought a litre of "Walmart" brand many years ago and have been using it on SSP, MSP and CO2 airguns every since. Never a problem. It keeps the seals happy.

Agree, I can't finitely determine which shoots the most accurate (might need a repeatable ransom rest holder to do that).

Interestingly, both of my P17 barrels have the tighter fitting breech chambers as Any pellets I've tried fit slightly looser in my P3!
