I acquired a 33+ year old Baikal model 38 break barrel springer today (made in USSR)...I got it for $10...

I feel like I rescued this gun from it's owner. When he showed it to me he cocked it and dry fired it. When I said that he shouldn't do that, he responded with, "nah, it's ok...I dry fire it all the time."

It went unused and improperly stored (neglected) for the last three decades (when it wasn't being dry fired).. but it is fully functional. It actually shoots well and is very accurate...I couldn't help myself and had to try it out, and I figured I couldn't possibly damage it by actually putting a pellet through it. ( I actually put about a dozen pellets through it).

I want to clean it up, change the seals, moly lube the spring, remove the mold damage inside the stock and refinish it with true oil. I want to restore it for my youngest daughter. (she's only 2-1/2 years old, right now)

My problem is that I'm not sure how to disassemble it...it doesn't look like anything I've ever worked on (I don't have much experience...just with my Crosman Phantom and 22XX/13XX)...and I don't know where to purchase a seal kit.

I can't seem to find any YT vids, or any info online, so I'm hoping someone could help me figure this out. Any help would be greatly appreciated..

The IJ 38 is very similar to the IJ 22 in design, there's a good deal of infos on the net for both. You could start your searches here for infos:

I think the 38 may or may not have a leather piston and breech seal, which are easy to make if needed. I have an IJ 22, on which I did a good tune, it's a keeper! Does yours have a brass barrel liner?

No it doesn't....it also doesn't have a breech seal...just metal...
