It’s so cold in Calgary, it’s too chilly for penguins at the Calgary Zoo

At these temps if we don't find a way to play, we'd die of sadness.

I mean, this crap is nasty. When it's this cold it literally hurts the skin. Reason why I have a balaclava on.
We have several water guns and still none of the kids wanted to venture outside for a bit of real fun. Which may be as well, no one wants to get boiling water hitting the eye - or literally freezing in place once your clothes get wet.

Fun times. Even more fun by morning as a chinook is due to hit us.

Anyone else having issues with the link? Seems to work fine to those I showed it to. Could it be that your computer can't play a mp4 video?

An hour or so after doing this fun experiment temp dropped to -31 (don't even want to know what the windchill value was) and by tomorrow it's supposed to be plus 3. Such is the rollercoaster weather here, courtesy of our pals chinooks.

That'll be nice. Supposed to be close to 0 or above next weekend for us - will go shoot the black powder trail through the bush at our range, with my bro and his daughters with their news flintlocks.
Here they are. The rifle with the ribbons was at Dixon's Gun maker's Fair in Conneticut. The rifle won a bunch of ribbons in Master Class - an elaborate Jacob Kuntz rifle of the 1810 period.
Both rifles are .40 calibre. The dark really striped stock plain rifle, is a slim 'Southern Mountain Rifle', just built from a kit. It took 2 days to built the kit and 2 weeks to put on the stain and finish.
The Kuntz rifle, made from scratch, took 4 months to build.

Joolz - the water gun video did not work for me, either.

Only been -12 here on the East Coast. I don't miss Alberta weather.

Thanks, but don't rely on me for wonderment: with the temp in Ontario dipping to close to -30 in a day or two you can just try it yourself. And be creative, throwing water into the air from a coffee mug got old quick. I had tried this a couple of nights before and no one could care less. That's when it hit me to use one of our many water guns. Although at first I got a nodding look due to fears that boiling water would ruin the gun. Well, it didn't - go nuts!
