This could mean either air or powder or combination of both.

I had always thought and still do, that firearms ownership and the # of guns needed could greatly be simplified by math.

Did you know that there is actually a mathematical formula for determining the optimum number of guns you should own? Well, there is, and here it is:

X = N+1, where X = the optimum number of guns, and N = the number of guns you currently own.

No need to thank me. I offer this as a public service.

Intriguing Formula Daryl!

But what about value -W, where W is the number of guns wife says must be sold first? I generally modify the basic formula and get the equation to work by factoring in Value T, where T = number of guns traded with buddy. -W+T always calculates out to 0. Resultant formula therefore looks like this:

X=N-W+T+1

Daryl,s equation is almost perfect except for the factor C which is Caliber.
So X=N+1XC

Your absolutely correct Joe, I see the err of my ways. That formula works perfectly of course for single guys. Inserting the additional elements (-W+T)=0
to acount for WAF (Wife Acceptance Factor), the modified equation looks like this:

X=N-(T-W)+C(1)

Where
X is the optimum number of guns
N is current number of guns owned
W is the number of guns wife says must be sold first
T is the number of guns traded with buddy to compensate for W (T-W)=0
C is the number of calibres wanted

What have I missed? Calling all mathematicians.

Should be = You only tell people they can only own X amount of guns, and it will be 4. Because you'll have the hunter be like don't need pistols, don't need ARs, Don't need this. Just need a 270, 12ga, and 22 ( maybe a air rifle )

Best is 1+2 =

I used the W as the number of shoes the wife has and I could never find storage for that many guns :lol: :lol:

Whenever my wife asks me "is that a new gun?" I always reply "No dear it's old. I have had that one for quite a while."

The correct number of guns to own is at least one more than you need and never equaling to the number you want.

I'm lucky. My wife does not complain or tell me I cannot buy any new guns.

Yes, I've used that one too ........ I wonder how we might enter this component into the formula?

You guys are making it too complicated. No wife factor needed. It is always easier to obtain forgiveness than your requisite permission! Keep the W factor out of the equation.

KISS works well, covering all aspects that I can envision. The only problem that I can see, is when one desires to make a bulk purchase.

I see another problem. Manufacturers continually offering new products that I must buy.

I use a much simpler equation:

If some are good, then more are better, and too many is just right.
