For the last couple years I've resisted PCP's because I didn't want to be tied to an air source.

Finally I decided to build my first PCP, but wanted to keep it small, light, quiet, with the highest shot-count possible.

I considered a QB78 project, but I had so many Crosman 1322 parts kicking around that it made more sense to stick with those. All I really needed to pick up was a 2200 tube, an air tank/regulator, and some fittings and taps to connect everything. The valve is from a 1322, tapped directly to the bottle via 1/8 NPT fittings. The barrel is only 14" to keep everything compact.

The bottle's regulated at about 1000 PSI, the most I can squeeze out of it without a better spring-pack. 13 cubic inch bottle gives me 170ish shots from 2900-1000 PSI.

It shoots H&N sniper lights (14g) at 605 fps for just over 11 fpe. My original goal was 700 fps, but I'm considering keeping the regulator as-is. 170 shots between pumping is pretty awesome. Not that it takes THAT much to pump a 13ci bottle.

Pics to follow.

Hi.

I modded a Hammerli 850 with http://jdsairman.com/HPAapplications.html and installed a shroud just for looks . Shoots great , and I love it.
I'm just looking for a good multi shot magazine for my Beeman QB Chief , and I will have 2 excellent shooting PCP's .

Nice projects, looking forward to pictures!
I've had a repeating system on my Qb78 for a year or so and it works great. $59 US shipped, 8 shot magazine.
I'll look for the email address if you're interested.

Sure, the machinists name is Lukas and his email address is amerlock@volny.cz
I've found him great to deal with. He sells the magazine system for $59 shipped anywhere in the world, or he did a year ago [emoji5]

I have that same exact one in .22 cal. for my QB78D, I like it so much that I will probably get one in .177 for my other QB. Only thing is that you must use high rise scope rings with that mag, but I don't see that as a problem 8)

Pics still coming, I had to tear down the rifle and rework some stuff...

I re-shimmed the regulator using actual Ninja shims. There were 4 shims in the rebuild kit I bought, 2 thick ones and 2 thin ones. Shoved them all in there, and it brought the regulator pressure up from 800 psi (no shims) to 1100ish.

With more pressure, the fps climbed nicely. 18g's shot at 635fps at 3000psi, down to about 610fps at 1100. The standard deviation was almost nil, around 1 fps shot to shot, but there was a gradual loss of 25fps from 3000-1100psi.

I put in a lighter hammer spring (stock 1322 spring), and adjusted the RVA until it held a consisted power from 3000-1100. It's now shooting 18g's at 603fps. Standard deviation is a little higher than before (but not by lots), but the shot strings are the same at all levels of fill. It should be a little better on air use this way, I believe I'll get about 120 shots on a 13ci tank. I've seen people do way better with efficiency, but with only a 14" barrel I think that's pretty good for 14.5 foot pounds.

Somehow got my regulator pushing 1500psi by swapping one incrementally small shim with another incrementally small shim.

Since it’s a small valve, tapped directly to a regulated bottle via a couple inches of 1/8npt fittings, there doesn’t seem to be enough available air to improve efficiency much. I did take apart the valve again and add whatever volume I could.

So now I’m looking at about 75 shots from 3000-1500psi @18fpe

I didn’t think I’d need that power for plinking, but now I can plink at 100 yards. Pine cones are much more satisfying at this distance!

Great work! I'd love to see pictures, to get some ideas for myself [emoji846], such as how you support the front of your hpa tank etc. I'm thinking a steel breech would be minimum needed with a barrel band to the bottle, and one of those long steel breeches would probably be the best. The gauntlet gets away with just a shroud though so I guess other options could work as well without touching the barrel.
