If you are shooting 33 feet/10meters and stacking pellets in the same hole and one goes off an inch is that a flier/flyer to you? Have to be six inches out after so many shots? Wondering what other people call a flier/flyer?

To me a flier/flyer is two inches out and if it happens once every five shots the same thing, that is a flier/flyer.

Flyer is a shot that didn't go where you wanted it. If you're shooting and have a ragged hole group and one goes even a inch off, that's a flyer.

I'm pretty hard on myself. Anything that impacts outside the X ring, I consider a flier...or flyer, whichever way it is spelled. :?

Outside the U.S., there is no difference between flyer and flier. They are interchangeable, though flyer is about twice as common as flier. American writers tend to use flyer for small handbills and flier for people and things that fly. This distinction does not run deep, though, and the two spellings are very often used interchangeably even in the U.S., so it’s safe to say that neither is correct or incorrect for any sense of the word.

CHEERS!

A flier is a shot that impacts outside of the 'normal' group, even though carefully aimed like the rest, or as an abnormal shot placement contrary to the 'rest' of the rounds fired.

Proper nomenclature is vitally important in any sport. I watched an episode of "The Mountain Men", wherein the fellow in Pennsylvania, "Turtle Island"- had one of the kids

sight in his Ruger #1- don't remember the calibre. Anyway, the young fellow hit the piece of firewood at about 50 yards, maybe 3" from his aiming point and figured it was "good enough".

The 'mountain man' missed a very easy 50 yard shot on a nice whitetail deer and claimed the rifle "Miss Fired" & blamed the kid. The rifle didn't "miss fire"- it went off just like it should.

He missed he shot, plain and simple - and he is an idiot.
