Wow... Never know that our Rangers are using the rifles from WW2...

This just impressed me again on the long life cycle of the firearms... maybe just say guns...

1911, this Le-Enfield 303, HW45... Too many examples...

How come I think I need a new car in 5 years or a new computer in maybe 2 years or maybe a new cellphone in 6 months.....

I can't read it due to the Ottawa Citizen's blocking add, telling me that if I want to view the link, I have to buy an add removal program from them - bloody extortion.

My understanding is that the Gov paid 6 times the going rate for an off the shelf Tika. Im looking forward to a bunch of full wood stocked Endfields becoming available to the public though.

I already have an add blocker - because this add is coming from Ottawa Citizen paper, it is not blocked and it blocks the article.
I uploaded the add blocker in airmec's post and Ottawa Citizen still blocks the screen with an add telling me to allow adds on this site.
I set the program to allow adds and I still get the screen blocked by Ottawa Citizen's add to allow adds. They can - well, never mind.

Here's the text:

These photos provided to Defence Watch by the Canadian Army show members of the Terra Nova Patrol, 5th Canadian Ranger Patrol Group conducting live-fire range training with the new C-19 rifle in Clarenville, Newfoundland and Labrador on May 6th. The C-19s will be distributed to the Canadian Rangers over the next year and a half.

The .308 calibre C19 replaces the Lee-Enfield .303 rifle which the Canadian Rangers have used since 1947. The C19 is lighter, shorter and more precise, according to the Canadian Forces.

The new C19 rifles are an improved version of the FTC Tikka T3 developed by SAKO (Finland), and manufactured under license by Colt Canada. They are more robust, and operate more reliably at temperatures well below freezing, an essential feature to ensure the smooth operation of Canadian Rangers in the Arctic, according to the Canadian Forces.

Colt will produce 6,820 of the new rifles. “The Canadian Ranger Rifle production deliveries from Colt Canada commenced in March 2018 and will continue until they are completed in late 2019,” Department of National Defence spokeswoman Jessica Lamirande told Defence Watch.

Thanks Trigger happy -

I agree with most all of the statement, except for this "They are more robust".

There are very few guns more robust than a SMLE, which is why SMLE's from the 1st war era are still used by some countries.
The take a lickin' and keep on tickin'.

Since the Rangers had them since 1947, 71 years, lets see how many (won't be me) of the new ones are still around in 2035, which is only 17 years, let alone in 2089, 71 years.

A similar article on the Rangers. Might work better for those that can't see the other one.

My Ranger friends have told me that they will be able to keep the old SMLE's.

Few rifles (maybe none) in Canada have killed more moose than the Enfield in .303 caliber including the new World Record Alaska/Yukon Moose. I know this must grate all those high tech scope, rifle, clothing, hunting gizmo and do dadd manufacturers to no end.

I find it very comforting.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. I like the 303 No 4 Enfield.

Military always over pays for stuff.
