To me it looks like clay or duct seal would make pellet recovery a chore.
It's important to me to dispose of toxic lead properly and that means never in the garbage.

So in the interest of environmentally sound shooting I'd like to mention the rubber mulch trap. It is very easy to recover pellets.
They just fall to the bottom as I scoop the mulch out into a new box. After I scoop out the mulch I just pour the used pellets into a container. When I have 10lbs worth I'll leave them on a table in the gun club labeled 'free lead'. That's a tip I got here.

I know, rubber mulch traps make a mess. But I have solved that problem with 'Expansion Joint' material, a fibrous board material. It has a sort of self healing property when the pellet passes through so that it keeps the mulch from falling out as I punch ever larger holes in the cardboard target surface. I put a layer of the expansion joint into the box then pack it with mulch. I have a .22 QB78 (550fps) and it takes a mere six inch deep but tightly packed box to stop my pellets. Another bennifit is that it is heavy and does not move or shake one ioda when struck.

Yeah...I thought duct seal was way more than that.... $3.00 for duct seal is still a cheap, quick and easy fix for sound reduction....but $2.00 is better :D

Nope It's cheap. Home depot has it for 3.19 a plug, home hardware 3.49.

Be curious to do a penetration test to which is better. Duct seal vs Modeling clay.

duck seal far better have done both. have to go pal for pellet to penetrate duck seal even then stops just under surface and it last forever I have some i have used from 2002 to today still good. need at least 1 1/2 of clay to stop 500fps pellet and the stuff dries out in afew days. :drinkers:
