Gotcha - the firing pin was a raised part on the bolt face, ran vertically, 6 to 12 o'clock, right in the middle.
Left a pin mark, caved in section, top to bottom of the fired case.
Steel action, with wooden forend in front and wooden butt stock behind.
Had a long stick 15 round mag.
I can picture the gun, but didn't know the make.

Squires on the bottom

Bloody memory! - NOW I remember the Squires B.
tks for the explanation and pictures.
Yeah- not even close and now remember that Frenchy gun with crinkled black paint.

I was born and spent the first 11 years of my life in the Philippines, my dad being a former cop and me being his only son, he used to bring me along to his friends house some of which were gunsmiths and i remember their beer time discussions about this brand , talking about how they would pick "esquirebinghaams" and elisco( local brand famous for license produced m16a1's) over any imported name brands any day. Anyhow nice to know that people in Canada know of them, and enjoy having them as well. :)

It is a great rifle and my go-to 22 over the ruger and marlin, it just simply out shoots them in accuracy using pritti much any round but just loves the wildcats, it shoots so nice I use open sights
I tried making my own trigger but it didn't turn out so well and kept hanging up but will try to refine it but will keep looking for a replacement trigger
It has gone through a few triggers over the years and always seems to break while I take it apart to clean it
