I had a bb jam so I needed to open up my dpms. After I removed the two halves, a small and squashed spring fell out. I have no idea where it goes and the gun seems to work fine without it.

Anyone have any idea where it went, what it was supposed to do and where I might get a replacement?

I know that there are some springs in the pistol grip but I didn't remove it nor did I remove anything from the lower receiver.

Thanks.

I just ordered this rifle from AGS last night and I was wondering if you figured out where the spring came from? I've watched numerous vids on Youtube and I have yet to see anyone with this problem.

Did you take the pistol grip off? Maybe it's the springs that hold the detent for the safety selector or the take down pin. Maybe the spring for the bolt catch?

No idea and I never touched the pistol grip section so I don’t see how it could come from there. Maybe the spring wasn’t supposed to be there in the first place?

I just found out last night from a guy on youtube who installed a new grip on his DPMS. He said one of the springs operate on the rear take-down pin and the other belongs to the safety. I would love to see a pic of this spring u found.

That spring looks to be pretty mangled and took some force and trauma. If the bolt release, take down pin and safety are working like they are suppose to, u have nothing to worry about. Maybe a defective/damaged spring from the factory was dropped into the receiver by accident during the manufacturing process.

Well that looks like it got mangled. I know the real rifles ( built over a dozen ) Not the airgun version. so I only can go by what it may be.

So lets do some head butting.

Does the bolt catch on the right hand side on the lower, have spring tension?

Is there a spring in between the trigger and disconnector?

Is there a little peg on the rear of the lower, with the upper off, pointing up? The bolt would go into the stock and on a real model woul keep the buffer/spring in. Does that have spring tension.

There a little tab on the charging handle that normally locks it closed. Does that have spring tension?

The springs that normally would be in the grip are long and skinny.

Now like I said I don't got one. Only can go by the real models and what it may be.

Bolt release and safety work fine. The pin in the rear pushes out enough to lift the back of the upper assembly and the two go back together fine but I don't see or feel a spring involved with that pin.

Charging handle locks back into place.

I see a small pin facing up at the back of the lower receiver. I don't see anything on that part.

In any case it all functions fine.

Then probably one that fell in.

After doing some close up examination on my DPMS tonight. I noticed a spring similar in size to the one posted by the OP on this thread. It may have slipped into the lower receiver or was dropped in by accident during the manufacturing process. There's a smaller spring right next to the larger one as well. I posted pics of them.

Thanks for the pictures. Mine looks the same. Must have been something that wasn’t supposed to be there in the first place..

No problem at all HappyOne! I can't seem to put this rifle down since I bought it. My velocity on Magazine one for the first 10 to 15 shots are averaging 430 to 445 fps now. Just added a buttstock pad yesterday to complete the current look.
I never clean the bores in my BB shooters, but out of curiosity, I ran a patch through the DPMS Thursday evening and couldn't believe the blackness on the patch that came out. I don't know if it came out of the factory like that or if it's the coating on the Hornady Black Diamond BBs. Nevertheless, it's clean now.
This is my fav BB shooter in my collection and the most accurate one as well. It's a KEEPER!!
