Thoughty2 is a good channel, I have seen this video before. No wonder so many people sound so similar, all using the same song writer. LOL.

However, if you know where to look and aren't just going by the top 40, you'll see there's still people making good music. I am quite fond of a young (younger than me) alternative rock band called "Skating Polly" who's oldest member is only 20.

Here's one of my more liked songs of theirs, titled "Perfume For Now":

Even them, I hear sounds that Ive heard before. This day and age, hard to be original. Someone always look up to another band. And get their ideas from them.

Like Christmas, I was listening to the Nightmare Before Xmas Revisited, while decorating. Was one band trying to rip off Pink Floyd. Another Depeche mode. Some bands as soon as you hear. You know it's them.

Fair.

However I do think there is a difference between having influences and being a copy. Virtually all artists have influences.

The difference seems to be using those influences as a starting point for your own style, or just not experimenting at all and essentially being a copy.

For instance I can hear similarities between Iron Maiden and Helloween, however they still are noticeably different and I don't consider either to be a copy of the other.

The Sisters of Mercy and The Merry Thoughts do have an uncanny similarity to each other. I mean, if someone played me a song from either of them and I didn't know the song title or who made it, there would be a 50/50 chance of me thinking it's sisters or that it's the merry thoughts.

Listening to "Safari Song" it clearly has a late 60's early 70's vibe to it. The Zeppelin influence is obvious, I can't tell how obvious it is or not, because I honestly do not listen to much Zeppelin, just a little, but enough to know how it sounds.

That said, no matter how original, or not, it's good that people are still making this kind of music.

This video is great, though it covers the controversy over Greta Van Fleet, but also mentions how Led Zeppelin had influences, and even directly "stole" riffs and lyrics from other artists.

So, if even Zeppelin wasn't 100% original, than it seems to be an unrealistic standard to expect 100% originality.

there good talented musicians i like some of there stuff, but the problem is some of these band
cant admit where there music came from...and they kind of make it sound like
they didn't get influenced by the band they sound exactly like...and that tunes people off
in this day and age with social media being huge you can get away with stuff like that
i was in a band in my late teens we played covers from Metallica and Slayer most of all
are original songs sounded like those two band its just the way it is, hiding it will just makes you look dumb
and turns people off...just like the vid the OP posted about the young girl, if she would have said she was
and had been in talent shows before maybe people wouldn't of been so hard on here, people don't like it
when there being tricked to believe something that's not, just admit where your music came from and you
wont get so much back lash..... :supz:

A lot of "classic" rock mentioned. If I were young, like the OP must be, I might also call it eccentric. Any list from that classic period, the 60s and 70s, should also include UK bands such as Jethro Tull, Yes, King Crimson, Uriah Heep and Deep Purple to name a few. North American lists aren't complete without Neil Young, Lynard Skynard, the Doors, the Allman Brothers, Steve Miller etc.

Edit: OP, give a listen to "I'm an Adult Now" by The Pursuit of Happiness.

From the first video you posted Ace, the narrator is right, think of music just like food.

I like pineapple on pizza, others don't. It's subjective.

He's right Greta Van Fleet were never in any drama, or controversy, or ever dissed or hurt anyone, so their similarity to Led Zeppelin seems to be why people dislike them.

though It think as time goes on, they will develop their own sound. People must remember they are still relatively new, especially new in the sense of popularity. People need to let them mature musically.

I don't disagree with you and that's why i posted that vid.... i like all different genres of music rock and metal being
at the top of my listening preference that being said i really don't care what others like or dislike
if it sound good to me or moves me then i like it....what i was trying to say is some people don't like bands
or singers that can't admitted to there influences and try to sound or say there somewhat original lol....yeah OK....NOT
