As the English article notes, THUGS (criminals) can turn legal guns into non-legal guns for about 35 pounds.

In England, that means turning the <12fpe air gun into a firearm - >12 fpe.

Note, they if turn legal guns into non-legal guns, they are breaking the law.

How can the answer to this be more laws?

The defense lawyer spoken with in the drinking and driving article has no idea what he’s talking about. Case law prevents abuse of the new regulations. No officer is going to knock on your door and demand breath samples unless you were just witnessed driving drunk, no different than what can be done now. News crews are just flogging this right now for attention.

The conversion of airsoft guns is more interesting.

Agreed. It would be harassment and would restrict their ability to legally test after the inevitable legal action lobbied against such unwarranted practices. It's just a story.

For some reason, powers- that-be seem to find the solution is to punish 99% of the law abiding citizens for crimes of the 1%.

Well..it would be a shame if in the future we were not allowed to "tamper with"... as I'm sure they would call it......our air guns....maybe the goal is to make it so ALL air guns will have to remain completely factory specs for each particular model....no pal springs installed in non pal guns...no valve mods....etc....etc....who knows what's coming but things like this are a real possibility....

Warped thugs can add powerful springs or pressurised gas canisters to their air rifles – many of which are available for purchase without a background check in England and Wales – in order to double their power.

If you double the power of 12 ft lbs air rifle, you get 24 ft lbs.

Even the most anemic of firearm cartridges like the .22 Short will produce 70 ft lbs and trying to conflate the two is obvious media sensationalism.

Yes, indeed it has. The 'fake news' has come to the world of air rifles.
