This is not a slam against this dealer but I feel they did not answer my question clearly. Recently I ordered and received a Daisy Camo rifle which is small and boxed for its size by Daisy. At check out, it was clear that a $7.50 oversize charge would be applied. I did not question this before ordering. It was received in a box about 1 foot longer and stuffed with paper. I sent a message to them for an explanation of what oversize means and that I had ordered the same item earlier from another dealer which came wrapped in the original size and no additional charge.I asked if they pack all rifles long or short in the same size box and why this small carton could not just be wrapped. Apart from the point that I did not verify why this charge was applied before I closed the deal, I just wanted to know how they determine 'oversize'.

Their customer service replied that this is a mandatory charge but did not explain why.

Oversize is any package longer then 39.4". I just boxed up a rifle, I was able to fit it in a 38" box, to save the fee.

I would have accepted that point If they had just said so in their response. I presume it is UPS , the carrier. that establishs these costs.

To be fair. It does say on Cabelas site.

Oversize item – an additional shipping charge may apply to this item.

And some store do not like wrapping just the box it is in ( people complain it gets damaged ) Being that Cabelas ship firearms. The standard is double box it.
