I've read about people using Non detergent 30wt motor oil and atf fluid , I have a Bottle of Lucas Trans. fix here that i have no use for , it's detergent free could i use it as lube in my 2100 without any ill effects ?

Sounds interesting to try alternatives, but for around $5 a tube, why risk it? I find a tube lasts me a real long time.

that would be why i am asking if anyone knows for sure if it can be used , so im not risking it . it's $10 for a quarter ounce bottle of pelgun oil at canadian tire and only $25 for a 24 ounce bottle of lucas ..... I'll save the cash if i can lol

What's the worst that could happen? Since its tranny fix, it may swell your seals and make pumping impossible or cause excessive wear and then they start to leak. If no one can report on the long term effects of Lucas on a pumper, then don't use it. You can use SAE30 non detergent since many others use it without issues, and its about $8/litre.

If it's detergent-free I'd go with it. Lucas is a renowned brand of quality lubricants. Worst case scenario: you mess some low price O-ring and need to clean the rifle. I'm using SAE30 ND air-cooled engine oil in summer and SAE10 in winter, I've used air tools oil and even winter chainsaw oil :mrgreen: As long as the O-rings are ''wet'' with a non-destructive, temperature-compatible lubricant you should be good.

I was just hoping to find someone who has tried it , if i don't hear a definite yes i will grab some non detergent 30 wt oil and use that , i just cant stand the thought of spending $10 for a quarter ounce of pelgun oil just because it says crosman on it when there are tried and true cheaper alternatives . I appreciate the input fellas.

your correct don't...get the SAE30 non detergent and your good to go
just remember a small drop go's a long way... :wink:

I find a tube last more than a year & I use a drop on every CO2, as well as on seals that are starting to leak a little.

Just takes one seal issue to lose all of the saving of using something else.

I would ask a qualified airgun repairer what they think.

But again, if you go ahead, please keep us posted. And not just in the short term. Would be more interested in the long term effect over a # of years.

There are guys that have been using the motor oil for years and not had a problem , it's a pretty safe bet that it isn't going to damage anything , you must work for crosman do you? lol pushing that pelgun oil pretty hard.
