Hey Folks, so I've been wanting to pick up the American Classic for a long time now and noticed that they were on sale at Canadian Tire this week for $79.99, down from the regular $99.99. This is the .177 cal and 495fps (model 7-P1377) Decided to pick one up as they aren't on sale that often.

I haven't had a chance to really try this thing out yet but with the history of this gun and all the positive reviews I figured it was a sure winner. I must say though that right of the box, I'm a little underwhelmed. I was not expecting any sort of match grade pistol at that price point but the bolt action does seem to have more play in the plastic breech than I was expecting. Not a big deal as it seems a steel breech replacement is a pretty easy job.

My real concern is the fact that the front blade sight is visibly deflected to the right while looking down the gun. Thought maybe it was just the rear sight not being adjusted or loose causing it to look like that but no amount of adjustment would correct it. I can actually move the front sight side to side easily with my fingers over the barrel.

Is this a common issue with these guns or did I manage to get another lemon;) Wondering if I should exchange this one for another or just keep it as I'm sure I'll end up upgrading that front sight anyway. Going to put some pellets through it tonight and see how it does.

Thanks for any advice!

My 1377's (and my 1322's) front sight seems straight. They are not high quality guns, but for me they are very accurate at 10m and fun to shoot. Great value IMO.

Don't remember how the original front sight works as mine was replaced with the muzzle brake or use scope instead...

I remember the front sight is 'sticked' to the barrel very firmly... Did you check if it's actually a loosed barrel moving, not the sight?

The Crosman Classic just obviously made in the US ~ tough and rough... Don't expect it has the high precise quality and craftsmanship as the German made guns. But it can make the job done.

A very nice high value gun... And be careful don't spend too much in moding it... :winks:

Out of curiousity I'd like to ad a question relating to the infamous 1377:
is there a difference between the 1377C and the Classic 1377 other than maybe the stock and grips that are in black plastic and the ones that are in imitation wood brown plastic ? I noticed that the ones available 'in stock' from the US airgun retailers are in the brown plastic whereas the one available at CT as mentioned by Sgt Baker are the black plastic. (and detuned to meet 'under 495fps' for Canada.)
Thanks.

I had a 1322 with a cracked front sight / barrel band. So I just removed it and now have a floating 14" barrel and it works great!
All I did was remove the broken band and replaced the pivot pin with a drill bit shank. I also inserted 'cone rubber washers' (plumming supply) into the pivot point.
Works great and very accurate, 1/4" CTC at 12m and 1" CTC at 40meters.

As I recall, there's a flat spot at the end of the barrel which is meant to prevent the sight from rotating but there may be a bit of play in it.
(I think the sight is friction fit. You can knock it off straight forward with a block of wood & mallet.)

Wrong gun. You're thinking 2240.

To the OP. This is why I stopped buying Crosman. Their quality control has gone to the do do. And all Crosman's, that used the plastic breech, has floppy bolt handles. But my Maximus with steel breech. My bolt would fly up shooting.
