I read and reread the article from the link. I saw no mention of any laws being broken.

That's because there weren't any laws broken.

Yet the rifle was confiscated and he was taken into custody.
That does not add up.
Makes you wonder, doesn't it?

According to the game regulations here in BC, ALL air guns are firearms
compressed air or gas propelled.

The code, of course, has different specifications.

Standard practice now on weapon complaints. Waste of tax payer money though.

Why I don't live in the city.

"Taken into custody" is a lot different than "arrested". Again, no laws were broken. I don't think he had it for a legitimate reason though, which I'm sure is why it was confiscated.

To me, being taken into custody, means arrested - he is no longer free to go about his business.
Charged, is another matter.

The next step is either to let him go, or tell him he is going to be charged, saying - :"You are being charged with - etc, etc. then "you have nothing to gain from any favour or promise nor nothing to fear from any threat, whether or not you say anything. Anything you say may be given in evidence at your trial."

Short form usually given. "You need not say anything, anything you say may be given in evidence at your trial - oft times, not said "at your trial".

The joke version is " You need not say anything. Anything you say may be taken down, turned around and used against you"

If you have been arrested or detained, the police should give you the 24-hour, toll-free number to get free legal advice from duty counsel.

lol - "arrested or detained" - same deal

":If you are arrested or detained, you must be:

told why you have been arrested or detained, and why the police are investigating you,
told immediately that you have the right to a lawyer,
told about Legal Aid and your right to free legal advice, and
allowed to speak, in private, to a lawyer of your choice, as soon as possible, if you ask to do so."
