The superior HW40...

Yes, this is a prefect choice too!

What the best thing is the seller ( who is super good and I can back for him too ~) offers two different size barrels ( very easy to switch by your own), so you can try more new experience on the same gun.

The 177 caliber barrel can give you higher muzzle speed ( about 400fps).

And the .22 barrel can give you much higher impact power on the target. although due to the same power plant, and the higher weight of the .22 pellets, the muzzle speed of the .22 maybe lowered down a bit to 300fps something ( still much higher than the Buckmark), but the .22 power will surprise you too ~

Thanks, lots of great info guys, looks like the HW40 or P17 will be considered. I guess should have noted my intent for usage more clearly to help. My main usage will for my backyard target/plinking which is in the 10-15m range. Both accuracy and power are at the top of my list of importance (accuracy being #1) and blowback, replica, multiple shot being the lease important. Break barrel/single pump is what I'm most interested in then Co2. Price is a factor within reason but would rather spend a little more to get what I'm looking for then being disappointed or having to upgrade too soon. Also, most likely will end up buying a least a couple so wouldn't mind different power plants.

Thanks again!

Start with a $60 P17.
An X3 to the comments above and three thumbs up in the accuracy/power/price categories.
After you've tried it, you can give it/throw it away with little lost and move onto something more.
Just a great "starting out option." My guess is you'll keep it, even if you move on.

Another vote for the p17. Just can't beat the price to accuracy. If you want to move up I think there was a used daisy 717 recently listed here. Match grade accuracy single pump.

another vote for the P-17 but 10m is pushing it a bit for the P-17 its more like a 5m pistol
from the sounds of your shooting distance preference and since you don't mind co2
i'd get the 2240 decent accuracy easy gun to mod probably one of the most moded pistols out there
and has nice knock down power....

True enough, lots of fun modding, but if you are going with the plastic grip look, personally I'd buy the Diana Chaser, since you get the option of a magazine, and a two stage adjustable trigger, for just a few dollars more, and the barrels seem to be just as accurate overall. But either would be a good choice. :D

I second the Crossman CO2 pellet pistols, like this one.
My bro has had one in .22 since 1976 and still shoots it now and then, in the shop.

For .177, if you want more power, and keep up with non RPAL, you have to buy the detuned Canadian model limited to 495fps... If you think the 400fps HW40/P17 is not enough power... It looks no other choice in between?!

Then, a close to 500fps .22 will step into the sight.

A very good one is 2240. But you HAVE TO mod it... At least it's not my first choice due to the plastic and plain black metal looks and parts outbof the calm shell box... So before step into the hole, you may need to do more homework and think about do you like moding and how much you want to put into it...

I vote to the 2240 by myself, as I love my lightly moded 2240 too!

If you don't want to out money and time to mod , the Chaser should be the best choice IMO, I agreed to the above too! As I loved my Chaser with the Carbine kit too!

Both 2240 and Chaser are very accurate guns with (more than) enough power for your back yard plinking needs ~

Cheers!

Well after all the recommendations looks like I'm going to try out the P17 and still undecided for the second one between the 2240 and the Chaser. All these pistols are pretty affordable so won't mind buying a couple. By the sounds of it everyone has a P17 in their collection as a cheap "fun" pistol because of the low cost.

Thanks again for all your help

Remember the 2240 and the Chaser have a crack. Sounds almost as loud as a .22 rimfire. Don't know how close your nabors are or if they are gun friendly.

I second this, keep neighbors and your proximity in mind for sure, it could possibly save you a TON of trouble.

You could also build/buy an indoor trap and shoot inside like the basement or garage, or something, like I do during winter/bad weather.

I do plan on making a 10m indoor target set up so sound wont be an issue but would also use them on occasion outdoors at my brothers where their are no close neighbors.

Get the Artemis CP1 or Chaser from Airgun Archery, PM Wes, this is the best value for the money in features and price point for a CO2. if you want to fiddle around, crosman 2240 series.

Where is AirgunArchery located? I reviewed their web pages and din't find an address - could be my bad search.

cheers,
