While I think that the majority of what went/goes on in there is utter nonsense, it is still a sad thing to loose.

It's a great testament to human ability, to be able to build something like that, not to mention the craftsmanship, the art work. A great work or architecture, is still a great work or architecture regardless of it's purpose.

Agreed.
It's only sad that a building that took over 200 years to build, survived the war etc ... can be destroyed so quickly.
I heard it might have something to do with the construction that was taking place.
Then I saw an old post...maybe it is was more sinister.

Maybe but according to one news story I was watching about it, there's no suspicion of arson or terrorism.

If that does turn out to be the case, then whoever did that, would have to really be bent out of shape or just a POS.

I'm not just very skeptical of religion (atheist), but very much anti-religious at least in context of what I would call "mainstream organized religions", and I wouldn't even dream of doing anything like that.

But then again, there's people who kill others in cold blood, so unfortunately, it isn't shocking that someone might have purposely set fire to such a historic and magnificent piece of architecture.

Tragic indeed. I can't see a building such as this just catching fire. Possible sure but probably not. I hope there were no casualties. That would be a true loss. Otherwise it's just a building. Can be rebuilt.

The first thing bounced in my mind was another attack from the terrorists or the French yellow vests... But then I read another following report said it's just an accident... BUT, WHAT accident?!

That's really so sad and can't imagine such a great building survived from wars and for so many years can be burned down in now a days.... I know it's almost all wooden structure, but we are in 2019, even cancers can be cured, and just can do nothing to put down the fire? It's not a fire in the forest, right?

My wife said it's just so sad we never been there yet and planned next year something we may spend our vacation in Europe includes Pairs of course....

They were saying its an accident before the fire department even got there. It was closed at the time, and no one was supposed to be there. A fire like that would need months of investigation to determine the cause, if they even can.

Someone was there.

Let us not device ourselves, we all know what it was a result of - religious conflict. In this case christianity VS islam, just like the Christchurch shooting was. This type of violence and destruction has gone on in the name of religion for centuries, if not a millennia already.

I posted the following before from work on my phone, but it must've not processed fully, as I don't see it:

It doesn't matter how long a building has stood for, every day is a new day, and anything can happen. There are many historic buildings which have survived wars, take the castles and cathedrals, etc in Poland, including those in major cities like Krakow for example. I think that there must be some reason for that, and it's most likely just because any army hostile or not, probably refrains from destroying things of historical significance, for the most part.

Like the movie "Forrest Gump" so well illustrated in one scene, "Sh*t happens". That's just the nature of reality, in the indifferent universe we live in.

The authorities have a hunch about how it started. Apparently the name will ring a bell.

I was once told by a Fire Inspector at work that fires often happen during roofing jobs. A torch, or other tool sends a spark or ember into a crack, fire may start immediately, maybe later after everyone has left for the day. I've seen a few fires at buildings having roof work done since hearing this, so I'm sure there's truth to it.

But let's not let this get in our way of religion bashing, and rumours. I'm going to wait for an official cause before I start guessing.

Large jobs like this also have fire safety marshals on site to make sure things dont happen. For the media to claim it was an accident prior to fire crews arriving is suspect at best. I doubt we will be told the truth if it turns out to be arson.
