I was curious about this of just filling it at the rear. Anyone have any suggestions? Also on my Maximus stock, someone told me about taking off the the swivel stud to get the butt plate off the back?

What are you going to fill it with?

I filled my 22lr hollow butt stock with duct seal. I didn't even take the duct seal out of the packaging. Seems to work well.

Not sure what to fill it with? Do the studs just screw off?

Should come out like a screw. Just stick something in the hole. Hex key or screw driver.

I dislike synthetic stocks for many reasons, only one of which is they sound hollow next to my shooting ear. I have filled them with various things to help dampen the sound, including stuff like cat litter, old rags, wood shavings. The rags do the job for me. The other fillers make the stock heavy and throws of balance.
As long as you don't make it a permanent fill, it's easy to experiment and find what works for you. Just a heads up, put a bag liner in for loose filler like cat litter and shavings).

Had a 10-22 in an ATI carbon fibre stock for a while, and the noise was something else. Filled her up with "great stuff" non-expanding spray can foam. Huge, light-weight improvement that totally removed the hollow "bong" sound from the stock...

Great Stuff is the trade name. Home Depot, Rona, and Lowe's should all carry it.
It's spray insulation that produces a Styrofoam like substance when it's cured to air. Very adhesive.
I felt no need to line the stock for it.
Watch that you don't get expanding foam. Lots of mess to clean up if you do.

There is a latex version of this that cleans up with water . I have used it in my house and was very satisfied with its characteristics . It would surely work well in a stock filling application .

I got it open, I put a med tshirt in, was just about perfect. Crosman had a little piece of bubble wrap in it lol

Cat litter would be heavy I would think.

hey all,
been a while, but im back again kinda. lol. hi to everyone..and all the old faces. dropped in for a visit once in a while.

anyway,
i have WEIGHTED lots of hollow stocks. i went to the dive shop and got so small 1 pound weights and placed them inside stock and kinda tacked in place with construction adhesive. just a bit so if i wanted to remove i could.
i did this to balance the rifle the way i like. i think it helps to settle everything down when aiming too.
