Just got it today! It's a beauty, very gracile and well made. Stocked in straight grain maple, and trimmed in lightly browned steel. Barrel is .40 caliber, and 42'' long (the gun is 58'' long!). Despite that length, it's very well balanced, and easy to aim. Sight radius is 30'', the rear fixed sight is about 10'' ahead of the lock. It's a reproduction of a very popular style of an ''all-purpose'' gun from the early 1800s, made by Brian Turner. I also saw on the net that it was also a very popular ''target shooting sunday gun'', and renowned to be very accurate. The gun is basically brand new, with only a few strike marks on the frizzen, it's never been fired yet. I won't tell the price, but I can say I spent all my ''gun money'' for this year ! I see that as a good investment though, not just spent money. This is the kind of well-built gun that can be passed to future generations, but also used for hunting in the meanwhile (it's said to be a good small/medium game gun). All in all, very satisfied with my purchase

It's a very nice looking reproduction, not an original.

The signature on the barrel (pic #6) and the barrel color just make it looks it's a 'restored' one not a reproduced one....

It's 1 turn in 48''. I saw on a couple site it's kind of a ''hybrid'' twist rate, good for patched balls and short, lightweight bullets. What I saw as ''squirrel rifles'' are mostly in .32 and .36 cal., with .40 being a bit on the ''big'' side. You need to be gentle with the powder charge with the .40, so as not to pulverize the meat, and head shots are almost mandatory, as well as short range shots (20-25 yards), but it's doable .

I won't be able to test that soon, as I have no range to shoot firearms, and shooting clubs over here require a PAL to be a member, even for non-PAL airguns . I registered for the firearm course, but it's only on the 23-24 of november, no more places were available before that date, so I need to be patient (no hunting this year for me ). Anyways, it's a first step in the right way .

Just got my flints order from Heritage Products today . French amber flints for my Tennessee long gun, and French black flints for my Hawken deer gun, two dozens of each. Unfortunately, Track of the Wolf was out of stock, but with a little search I found these very nice peoples in Missouri. I even spoke on the phone with Judith (which I believe is the owner's wife) to complete the order, she's the sweetest person to deal with .

French amber flints are said to be the best availables for flintlock guns, even the British were importing them from France in earlier days. They're supposed to be the most durable ones, and produce the best sparks, just can't wait to see that!
