G'Day Ladies and Gents!

Managed to get a little shooting in today with my newly acquired FX Radar Pocket Chronograph https://fxairguns.com/accessories/pocket-chronograph/, and what a mighty fine airgun accessory to use and to own!

Set up a target @ 30 yards and sent over one hundred pellets downrange with the Artemis PP700S-A I recently purchased from Wes @ AirgunArcheryFun. I believe I could shoot an entire 500 count tin of pellets, and the FX Radar wouldn't miss a beat -not one velocity error in a 100 shot string! Now that is impressive! The unit worked flawlessly, with no glitches or problems communicating with the FX App on my iPhone ....... this awesome little pocket sized Chrony raises the bar for affordability, accuracy and ease of use when it comes to Airgun velocity measurement; IMHO an absolute bargain @ $199.00! The only drawback I can see at this point in time is the stated upper velocity limit of 1300 FPS, which may limit use in the world of Powderburners.

Grab one while you can, I suspect these are going to sell like hotcakes!

Cheers!

Avianmanor

P.S. Check out the velocity consistency of the regulated Artemis PP700S-A Pistol.....Wow!

Interesting!

I'm assuming the app will calculate average velocities, and standard and extreme deviations....

Not yet ...... software is still under development, new features such as those will undoubtedly be added in future updates.

Just checked Google Play Store, the FX Radar app just about 100 downloaded counts...

It looks there is no many units in stock and sold to customers yet...

Must have been rushed into production. The features I mentioned are very basic chronograph functions included on the most simple units ( sometimes as an extra ).

The radar technology is a bit overdue for us shooters,though....

I agree Doc,

The FX unit was made available before the App, the only means of deriving information from the hardware, had been fully developed. At the same time, ease of use, accuracy and the lack of glitches and projectile tracking errors, make up for the current software shortcomings. Even if the combination off Hardware / software remains unchanged, I would take it any day of the week over bells and whistles.

The current app has provision for entering allot of data, including pellet weight, manufacture and design, which is currently not incorporated in any of the measurements / results -my expectation is the next iteration of the app will add allot of the missing features we hold dear in a Chronograph. In the meantime, let's not rain on the parade.

Will keep you posted!

Very informative than watching the YouTube introduction ~

'They explained that the unit actually creates a small Doppler wave “bubble” around itself – it extends about 100 cm (about 40 Inches) in front and 30 cm (about 12 Inches) to either side.'

It looks we don't need to find a perfectly 'spot' for the proper readings, because the radar wave ( bubble) just being able to cover a big area to lock on the pellet?!

And It's actually able to get several reading on each shot and the app to pick a strongest as the result to present... Sounds good!

And a BIG update on the app is to be expected in this week too! Sounds better?! [emoji38]

Thanks for the link BB1Shooter!

Awesome video review! Looking forward to the App update.

I did a little modification to my unit to eliminate the need for batteries -my FX Radar Chrony will now run off any USB port. If there is enough interest, I'd be happy to post detailed instructions on how to do this.

Cheers!

Have been seeing a few negative reviews on the FX Chrono recently, I thought other forum members should be aware of.

The main beef seems to be primarily in velocity comparisons between conventional Chronys like ProChrono, Shooting Chrony, Caldwell etc. and the new FX Pocket Unit, with criticisms based on a 2 - 3 FPS variance between the two ........ 3FPS? Really? Come one people! This is a $200 Doppler Radar Chronograph! And who is to say the inaccuracy lays with the FX and not the conventional Chrony it's being compared to? Even my C E ProChrono DLX, rated @ +/_ 1% wasn't dead accurate. Here's a link https://youtu.be/HtbKqI0dwhg to a YouTube video comparing in the field, the FX unit against the well known, highly regarded and far more expensive LabRadar ..... a 2 or 3 FPS variance at these velocities (950 FPS) according to my math equates to less than 1/2 % difference!

The second criticism I've been seeing is how finicky placement of the FX Radar Transmitter is in regards to getting error free measurements ..... I tried mine out with several pistols and two PCP rifles, 100 shot strings on the pistols and 50 plus on the rifles .... not one glitch or missed measurement! Not sure why performance results seem to vary so much from one user or another, but my unit continues to exceed my wildest expectations.

At the end of the day, how accurate does a Chronograph really have to be in the world of air-gunning? These discrepancies may also be a software related issue, which could potentially be resolved with future updates.

Looking forward to seeing some testing / performance results from other members on this forum once a few more of the FX units are in circulation. I suppose time will tell all.

Cheers!

Some of the reviews I've seen on other sites seemed to be more concerned with the repeatability of the unit. It appears alignment between the chrono and the barrel is sensitive and can cause some inconsistent numbers. I did see one video where a guy made a small bracket on a 3D printer to mount the chrono to the underside of the barrel. That would certainly get rid of repeatable positioning issues.
