Again.... Just being defeated by my weak will power and setup the freshly delivered FX pocket chrony and start shooting...

The little one looks compact and tough.

Image

3xAAA size batteries to power it up. I am using my Eneloop black rechargeable batteries and the app can let me know how much battery life I have remained all the time. And which looks the little Chrony is not a battery hungry beast, and my batteries were only consumed about 20% after 2 hours of usage...

Image

And I don't like the screw tightened design on the battery cover at all! I have the concern about missing the small black color screw and the nightmare came true that quick and you will notice I use a different screw to tighten the cover on the picture...

And I also have BIG concern about the long lasting when we screw the small steel screw in and out and in and out against the polymer (plastic) frame which will easily damage the thread hole very quickly... Even the car toys I bought for my son for just some bucks have a better design on the battery cover, and this little Chrony costs us for $250 buck which should use a much better design! I strongly suggest a magnet powered connection to tighten the battery cover. This method has been using for so many years on our phones, pads, kindles, and so popular on full covered cellphone cases now... Cheap and strong and long lasting!

Image

Image

The App and the Chrony are very easy to setup and use. Not sure to others, but on my cellphone ( Samsung S8), when making connection with the Chrony, you will need to start the app first, then turn on the Chrony, and press the 'connect' button flashing on the bottom left to establish the connection. No need and don't use the Bluetooth connection setup on your cellphone's system menu.

The app is very simple (but I like it), high contrast color theme is very easy to read. After you input the necessary data about the pellet you are using, you can get other data as reference together with the velocity.

And not sure if Android version is different, I don't see the scope setup which I see on the FX tutor videos on YouTube...

And anyone knows how to use the calibration and what's 'return' means and how to use them to fine tune the result?

And this little Chrony DO make mistakes and error reading as the old style chronies... But it's cheating as it won't report 'err' etc message but just ignored the err reading and keeps the last one on screen~ However most of the time it works just fine!

And you also need to find out the prefect spot to place the FX Chrony for all your different guns, co2, springers, pumpers, with/without muzzle brake, etc etc with your experiments... Looks there's not a prefect one spot fits all your guns...

After all, this is a very good and convenient tiny POCKET chrony. At least I can give it 4 stars out of 5 and will keep an eye to see if it works better or worse in the future ~

It looks the result returned from my FX Chrony is a bit higher than expected. And I don't have another Chrony to verify it...

My HW70 using R10 (7g wadcutrer) shooting 430fps to 440fps (fastest record 449fps)... Which I think it shoots just too well as the manufacture claimed 440fps, but ppl ( Pyramid Air reviewed below 400fps...) usually can't get that high score.. But it looks works okay on my other guns I shoot today... Depends on pellets and guns and spot to place the chrony, results some times have big difference... Some times it make sense, some times not...

Thanks for the "quick fire" review on your new FX Pocket Chrony YepYep.

So far, I haven't found any information or literature which explains the calibration function. I've sent a mail off to FX, asking about this, but last time around it took over a week for a reply. Presumably one "calibrates" the FX unit against another Chrony. However, even my Pro Chrono DLX, one of the most accurate on the market in terms of conventional Chronographs, was only accurate to 1%. Your suggestion of 9 FPS over the rated 440 of your HW70 equates to 2%, as good as most conventional Chronographs would be, so not sure what alternate Chronograph a person could use for a reference reading ....... Labradar? At he end of the day, how accurate can we expect (or does one need) a $200 Chrony to be?

For certain the battery cover retaining screw leaves a bit to be desired -since I modded mine to operate via a USB cable, I have no need to open and close the hatch, so not really an issue for me.

Please keep us posted on any additional observations you make with your new FX Radar Chronograph.

Cheers!

Thanks for the info, Avianmanor!

In your case, isn't that your FX Chrony is 'wired' again and lost the wireless, which its main sale point, convenience?

Attached is one of my boy's car toy, the screw of the batteries cover is held with it, won't fell off, then you can see under the plastic frame, the treaded screw hole is also with a metal liner which the steel screw will have no chance to make damages to the plastic frame... And this type of design just that common as almost all the toys in my house need battery use the same design... Just hopes the polymer frame of the Chrony is tough and durable enough...

Anyway, the Chrony is working without the battery cap.... Is that a good news ?! Image

The reason for hard-wiring my new FX Radar Chronograph is quite simple -the batteries don't last long and AAA are costly to replace. I have multiple portable rechargeable USB battery packs and / or AC adapters, so having a USB plug seemed a logical modification to make. My FX Radar is still quite portable.

You may already know it, but in case not and perhaps to help others:
When you are putting a screw into plastic, start by turning the screw counterclockwise (unscrewing) while pressing in lightly until you feel the click when the thread engages. Then stop and tighten the screw. It will extend the life of the plastic thread. HIH. :drinkers:

Yeah, but it's still using steel screw against the plastic treads...

And just do some testing, the 'radar tech' on the FX Chrony is not suitable for read the pellet speed on target.

You must follow the instruction to place the unit under the barrel for a reading... And if the unit is too far away (some inches) from the muzzle, no reading...

Makes me wondering how exactly the unit to read the pellet speed as I doubt it really sees the pellet (feel the pellet going through the radar bubbles as described by manufacture)...

No reading on my Glock17 blow back BB gun... No sure due to blow back slide movement or other reason...

Just got my FX chrony from AGS this afternoon. I tested my non-PAL Artemis CR600W Takedown CO2 rifle. Here is the result:

The readings are slightly lower than what is shown by the Caldwell chrony right behind it. I don't know which is more accurate.

Does the CR600W very close to the Chaser rifle kit??

I can do a full string on my Chaser tomorrow to make it a reference check too!

Yes, it is very close to a Chaser but with a longer CO2 tube. Same 19" barrel, powered by one CO2 cartridge.

Just shot a string with my Artemis CR600W Sub500 PCP-Altaros Regulator, again the FX Radar Chrony reads a little lower than my Caldwell Chrony set up right behind it. Roughly 1% difference.
