doesn't matter, and it's not even a law...
it's a whim. laws are made in Parliament.

CBSA has deemed that knives that can be opened w one hand are inadmissable into canada.

so what one can (still) buy legally at canadian tire,
and no cop would/could arrest you for...
can't be imported into canada as a new purchase..
and you can't even bring your own EDC knife back INTO canada after a camping trip south of the border.

knife fight

WOW! That crazy. Liberal Government for you. Soon they will not even allow kitchen knifes. We will all be eating with spoons. Remind anyone of anything?

Did you asked why it was illegal? I just carry a Swiss Army knife on a carabiner in plain sight. Then again, I live in the sticks, where everybody carries a knife.

law: "...According to Section 84(1) of Canada’s Criminal Code a pocket knife is a prohibited weapon when it “has a blade that opens automatically by gravity or centrifugal force or by hand pressure applied to a button, spring or other device in or attached to the handle of the knife.” [think automatic knives (switch blades) and balisongs/butterfly knives. But, in 2015 the CBSA began seizing flipper knives ....."

whim: the CBSA clarified their new authority based on this >>> " ...any folding knife is not permitted for import into Canada where the blade can be extracted and locked into place with centrifugal force when, prior to use of centrifugal force, an item on the blade, such as a stud, disc or flipper; or a hollowing in the blade is used to partially open the blade....”

https://knifenews.com/canada-border-services-agency-seizing-one-handed-opening-pocket-knives/

this whim is tied in to a ruling by the Canadian International Trade Tribunal (CITT)...

:axe:

And it do have small springs under the button which I need to press down to extend the blade and when I release, it will auto lock on position... Too dangerous...
