Thinking of getting a new HW80 .22cal, as I understand it to be one of the best break barrel air rifles on the market.
What size grouping can I expect at about 25 yards?
What pellet would you recommend?
Thanks

>500fps or < 500fps? My PAL HW98 does around 1/2" to 1-1/2", however the PAL .177 HW97 will group 1/4" at 25yards - both from a rest.
I have a replacement HP kit for the HW98, but haven't installed it yet. As with most air rifles, they are particular to what pellets they like.
This set of 6 targets (HW98.22) were shot with different "holds", noted on the targets. Bottom right, was held with the "Artillery" hold. This rifle doesn't
like that type of hold. all 6 at 25 yards.
As far as pellets are concerned, the H&N Barracuda Hunter at 19.09gr. is accurate in every one of my .22's, whether this springer or the PCP rifles & .22 handguns.
They all like that pellet. The other pellet that shoots well in all guns is the Predator. Next in line are the various JSB's- but - the 19.09gr. H&H is best.

Full power version @ 25 yards with H&N Field target trophy 5.55.
Also no pic but my daughter did a 5/5 on 1.75" spinners at 55 yards, i did 4/5.

I am seriously considering the HW 80 .22 800FPS (WIR-AR-011) which was suggested to me.

https://dlairgun.com/products/hw-80-3

I've read it's the BEST AIR GUN there is. Supposedly VERY ACCURATE ?
However, I'm curious what VERY ACCURATE means... is it 1/4" groups at 25 yards?

I want something capable of shooting dime size at 25 yards... can the HW80 do that ?
Would anyone recommend something different for that same $650 price range ?

For a bit more you could buy a TX200.

I dunno about best airgun, but maybe best break barrel if power is needed.

For a TX200, I think I would put HW97 before it just as I never bought anything from AA ( except pellet...[emoji38]), but I like HW... If so, a normal HW97 or K (I am not very favor on the thumb hole stock and like the traditional stock better) just less than 100 over a HW80...

But as Shoot mentioned, the HW80 should be the most powerful break barrel. And as a HW, it's pretty accurate, top class accurate and a nice Rekord trigger...

here is a very good review on the HW80
https://hardairmagazine.com/reviews/wei ... 7-caliber/

its not the most powerful break barrel...
Gamo Magnum is one of the most powerful break barrels out there....
now accuracy is a different story and that's what counts
HW all the way...

Yes! That's just what we mean and why support HWs~ there are still some magnum springers shoots much harder than the HW80, but I always heard about the bads from those magnums like difficult to control, kills scopes, etc...

Very good review! As the HW80 has been showed up in the market for many many years ( some owner's HW80 is saying close to 20 years old that I read from other forum...), and the gun HAM tested and reviewed was so new and if we buying new now a day, they maybe the same lot of production run. So it's very informative ~

Hi ,
Some one from this forum showed us on video of himself, what a tuned H80 .22cal can do. He shot match sticks at 50 yards. I believe the HW and AA are the very best springers in the world. Mass produced springers. They have been for many many years. No change but always the best. So for me based on that, I would buy for the size fit and feel. Power... can be made a little but a lot can be made with the HW80 platform. The Synthetic Black Line HW97Ks are very much favored over the wood across the pond. So.. I love that rifle I had one in .177cal. Size fit and feel is amazing. The big gun actually feels thin in the hand. Tons of fun to shoot. Mine made a tiny little one hole from 10 yards out 5 shot group. The HW80 is bulky and belly heavy. German tank. Not too heavy but it feels heavy some what. One of my short range dream guns is a highly tuned HW80K .25cal open sights only. The circle front globe insert and re blued. For the fit and feel I would get a custom made thin hunter stock. Or hope that AA make Pro Elites again one day. My favorite rifle at the moment is the HW95K .22cal for a million reasons. I got the Beeman from Can.shooting. Sup . Cheers
