Thanks Hawkeye for the input ~ Your '2 cents' is so true~

Actually I started finding myself like the HW97 since a long time ago~ way before I got my HW35E. And its weight is a reason prevent me to put it on the list...

But after having the 35E, plus a 42mm scope on it I have some idea about how 10lbs like in the hands.... So I shoot almost rested now ~ [emoji38]

I don't think I can standing and shoot it off-handed for more than 10 shots~

But, when you shoot rested, you just tell the truth, the self-weight of the gun makes it very stable on the rest by itself, and increase the accuracy in a big amount!

So now, it looks nothing else can stop me buying a HW97.... Uhh... D&L just not have the stainless laminated version...

For what it's worth
- Higher speed doesn't necessarily translate in better accuracy
- - If anything, some of the less expensive pellets might not like to be pushed too hard
- If you're planning on shooting in the back yard most of the time. Higher-speed rifle will also be louder.
- If you're finding yourself shooting one-hole groups a 10M, get off the bench and start shooting positions (prone/kneeling/standing)
- If the intended use of the rifle is plinking, a 177 makes more sens

I've shot gophers to 56yards with my HW97 in .177. It worked a treat.
I also have an HW98 in .22, same sight scope mounts. Both of these
guns shoot with the same FPE, however the .177 is considerably flatter
shooting out to that 56yard range.
If I had to do this again, I would buy the .22 in the HW97 however, just
because that calibre hits harder & is better for hunting.
If all I did was target shooting, I would shoot .177.

After watching another video... The magnum springer looks really powerful... A HW97 can knock down a target pellet trap (the metal box for you to insert a standard paper target) at 50 yards far... Don't want it be my art piece on the wall only...

But... HW97 is not considered a magnum springer. It is a normal springer. When you get your PAL you can try a magnum springer (Diana 350, etc) ... just make sure you have good dental plan too. :drinkers: HW97 is a joy to own and shoot. You will not regret it. :drinkers:

The 97 is not yet a magnum? It shoots .177 over 1000fps... (No need a dental plan is just because the rifle is well made, right?!)

Yeah, as it rated at 950fps, and I never known the 97 can shoot more than 1000fps before reading the HAM article as usually the manufactures will use the highest muzzle velocity when using the lightest pellet to rate their guns... I was thinking the 950fps is on a 6gr alloy pellet...

According to Chairgun, the 16gr .22 pellet from a full power HW97 will still have about 600fps at 50 yards....

8gr. Predator Polymag pellet starting at 887fps from my HW97 still has almost 583fps left at 60yards, and gives a 1" kill zone, from

11yards to 45 1/2yards & is barely over an inch low at 50yards, according to chair-gun.

I need to think again doubling the duct seal liner if enough for shooting the HW97 indoors....

I tried shooting my HW30s with Gamo wadcutter against a piece of laminated wood floor piece about 2 yards away last night, an unexpected sharp and loud noise when I pulled the trigger that just scared me then I found the dry wall behind the wood piece has a small hole, hmm, maybe a deeper dent, not a throught hole, and a half or deformed very much pellet buried at the front of the laminated floor piece ,then an exploded area at the back...... I think that would be pretty much I would see at 50 yards away if the gun is a 97 not a 30s sub-500?!

If the pellet didn't go through, that means the energy passed through and the dry wall actually was hit by just some wood pieces and made a dent?

don't shoot light pellets in your springer's...
especially your expensive high end one's....
yes you get more FPS but you will also cause damage
in the long run.... :(
It's pretty much like dry firing your springer which is a NO! No!....

Duct seal is enough for your 97....just make sure your box is made of
strong wood like Plywood not laminate...
laminate is basically compressed sawdust....lol

Nope nope~ I know that and won't use the alloy pellet on even my sub500 springer pistols... Just as mentioned on the article, when using very light weight pellet, the HW97 can shoot way faster as rated by manufacture... And I was thinking 1000fps or say above sonic speed is called magnum...

I own both .22 and .177 and wouldn’t part with either. You cannot go wrong with either - it’s about choices and compromise. The comments about .177 being flatter are true. My experience is that the .22 is better in the wind (less drift). I have shot .22 in HFT competitions head to head with .177 and done well. As long as you get to know your rifle, both calibers can deliver outstanding accuracy.
