In case any of you are interested in Land Speed Record attempts.... the Bloodhound has completed its high speed testing phase in South Africa, reaching a peak speed of 628 mph (1,010 kph), driven by Andy Green….

This project was started a decade ago by Richard Noble, who built the Thrust SSC that Andy Green drove to 763 mph to break the Sound Barrier in 1997.... Noble previously held the LSR at 633 mph.... The Bloodhound is designed for 1000 mph, and the new owner plans for a record attempt of about 800 mph in 12-18 months time.... with more to come after that, depending on results and funding.... Noble's company went into receivership a year ago, and the Bloodhound project and car are now owned by Grafton LSR.... The current testing was done using only the Eurojet Typhoon turbojet engine, the car will be fitted with an additional "monofuel" rocket to boost it Supersonic....

Earlier this year, Jesse Combs was killed in the North American Eagle while attempting to set a new women's record....

Image

The Eagle was an F-104 Starfighter on wheels with the wings removed.... There is at least one other LSR project ongoing, by Australian Rosco McGlashan, the Aussie Invader 5R....

Image

Rosco is the "Fastest Aussie on Earth", and previously made a 1-way pass in the Aussie Invader III of 638 mph.... I wish all of these brave pioneers the best of luck....

Bob

A jet engine-powered vehicle. That's power and speed.

A very fast speed on skis, equalling the speed record achieved in 1978, when the 200 kph was first broken by a fraction. Since then of course it's been topped.
