Hey guys/gals, well as many know I’m back into air guns after being away from the online angle for many years. Powder burns is where I’ve been playing, I love handloading my tikka t3x super varmit. That being said I need a quality scope for my hatsan at44, I have a hawk but after owning three ( down to one now) I find the quality unexceptable as mainly scopes are in my opinion. I shoot 50yds max with my 177 PCP so magnification isn’t my top issue, I just want something 2-10 ish in power ( variable) but is high quality so my aging eyes have clarity and the the crosshairs is “true” with the turret. I’m probably going to have to invest in a big North American brand like leupold or vortex etc. But I figured I’d ask around first.

Hawke Vantage is good for a decent priced scope. Plus it has a lifetime warranty.

The Bushnell 6500 in 2.5-16X is a very nice scope. You can pick them up used from time to time. They come in 40 and 50 mm and have a 30 mm tube. Both are great and very clear and bright. Mine is 40 mm and will be one of the last scopes I get rid of. It is side focus from 10 yards to infinity. The range of magnification starting at 2.5 and going all the way up to 16 can do all a 3-9 can do plus so much more. It is nice a light too.

There is a good Bushnell 5-15x40 mil dot AO in the forum store. At a fair price.

I have some very expensive scopes on my powder burners, as you need clarity and quality for long range shooting. Me in the air gun realm my reality is 50yds max, so magnification beyond 9 power is more then enough. I do like the high power scopes as they are usually longer which I find allows me more movement to find proper eye relief, as to front objective lens diameter I don’t like much past 44mm ( with side focus) or 40mm ( front objective adjustment) anything larger forces me to increase my ring height which then ruins my cheek weld, and good cheek weld means a lot to me. So maybe I’m just stuck with crappy hawk till something else comes around but thanks for everyone’s comments.

Cheek weld you say? Well I think the MTC Viper Connect might just float your boat. 32mm objective available at AGS, 24mm available elsewhere. For sub 50m/55yds, I'd say the quality is more than good enough. The big caveat though is that it has practically no eye relief so if you wear glasses this may not be an option. But, it has the unintended benefit of forcing you to keep consistent cheek weld to your stock every single time. :D It also has a very wide field of view so great for hunting. At 3x, you will see the end of your barrel through the scope. It measures about 10" from the eyepiece to the end of the objective bell (almost 11" if you include that little sunshade). Built in cap for the front objective (32mm ver only). It's got power markings for 3x, 5x, 6x, 8x, 10x and 12x. 10x has the added benefit of faintly clicking when set to that value so you can find it in low light conditions. However, going back to your first post... it does have 1/4 MOA turrets but a Milrad ret. :-? But that shouldn't be an issue if you prefer to use holdover instead of dialing in. And the turrets are capped anyway. It's really a hunting scope that allows (and encourages) you to take a shot quickly. The SCB2 ret also has plenty of hashmarks for the loopy trajectory of airguns but it is kind of thin (doesn't bother me). The center part of the ret (1st mil in all directions) can illuminate. It's $420 at AGS. Its mount is $54, kind of mounts high to me but it works. I've seen others just mount around the front half of the scope using regular mounts. Manufacturer says it's not recommended for springers (again due to eye relief). I keep mine on sub 12fpe or lightened piston springers. You want it on a PCP so again, shouldn't be an issue.

EDIT: Forgot to mention, the rear ring of the manufacturer mount does end up covering your parallax setting. If you look at that last pic you'll see what I mean. Yeah it's stupid. Could be a deal breaker for you (just for the mounts, I still highly recommend the scope). Have a good one.

Discovery HS 4-14X44 SF FFP is a great choice. Very nice and light for a 30mm scope. Very clear glass, first focal plane (if that interests you), side focus. Mil reticle with Mil turrets. It's 13 inches long, so still long enough to give some room for adjustment on the rifle.
For $249 you're not going to find better glass in ffp for less.

Knappr - For PCP, about any scope that is clear will work, however the Leapers etched reticle 3-12X44 30mm comes with picatinny rail rings
and runs about $225.00 from D&L. I have 2 of them and they are great scopes, clear, sharp and have 1/2 moa slashes between the moa dots.
I see they are sold out. That is unfortunate.

thanks everyone. I’ve definitely have been thinking about going to a FFP scope but I’m yet to trying one.

I will recommend any of the Discovery HD line. Crystal clear , big turrets that are lockable ( great for both hunters and bench) did I mention clear . And you can get them from Wes at airgunarcheryfun , one of the best in the business. I have three two in FFP and the third is a fixed power 10x. I’ll eventually replace all scopes to these just love them.
