The title says it all.

Are reflex sights allowed in 10m?

Odds are I am also wanting to pick up a reflex or red dot for my TX200 but was curious if down the road when I get a .177 if they are also allowed in 10m. Given that there is no magnification I don't see a real problem with them, but I know rules for things like this can be fiddly.

I figure red dots won't be but I am wondering if they differentiate with the reflex ones.

The other reason is if they aren't allowed I may just get a red dot instead at least there seem to be more options available for dots vs reflex.

Reflex and Red Dots are practically the same thing. If they are sticklers for 10m rules, I doubt they will.

Honestly I would just ask the range if can I use this, I want to shoot for fun, don't care about winning, or competition.Because sounds like you are doing stuff you dont want. Just so you can shoot over the winter?

Sights for handguns are OPEN sights only - no aperture or lens sights.
Sights for rifles, allow open, but aperture sights are normally used as they usually are more accurate than open sights.
No lens or red-dot scopes allowed.
FT is different.
Shooting indoors at 10m on Wed. or Sundays at 50 to 60feet, I use red dot sights on the handguns AND scopes on the rifles. We are 'plinkers' only
so sighting is not restricted.
Competition is different and one would need special equipment - for that.

No, red dots are not allowed in ISSF 10m air rifle. Wouldn't help if it was allowed. Chasing the 10 dot on the target with the red dot would only yield inconsistency and lower scores. The current set up is the best once practiced. Eye correction is allowed.

I don't think anyone at practice would care if you used a reddot and definitely not at an open range. Only at competition where once again you would only be handicapping yourself.

These posts all make sense. I sometimes struggle with being too literal and make trouble for myself. Gotta stay grounded! I am no pro just yet, and really just want to "sling some lead", however I can!

How about just asking the range? You are asking us, but only they can make the decision. Which is further making yourself depressed.

Yep, we are plinking only, and the moment we shoot is not in a competition match, why there are still so many restrictions? The ranger is not open to public? It's not planning to make money with our membership fee?

I think a range should allow everything except it's related to safety or lawful regulations...

Go ask the range / gun-club, they make decisions. And we can choose the ranger we like.

There are rules and regulations for any specific shooting discipline, but only basic safety rules/regulations for range use at gun clubs/facilities.
Getting the 2 mixed up can cause confusion, Yep Yep.

Yes, I agree. But my idea is causal shooting and in a match are different too. And we shouldn't mix these two 'styles' either.

For safety reason, like using a scope might cause issue as you won't be able to see the whole picture ( environment ) except the picture from your scope lens. I will definitely take that and take caution. ( Maybe same will apply to tube style dot sights ).

But should we execute the formal competition rules on every shooter in the range all the time?

If you enter a competition, you will have to abide by the rules for that competition.
Usually, when there is a competition at the range, only THAT competition is going on
& all other 'ranges' at that club are closed to 'causual' shooting. I guess this might
differ if there is enough room (distance) between the casual range and that where
a competition is being held.
For instance, the Provincial Rimfire Silhouette match is held the same weekend at at
our in-town club as our annual black powder rendezvous. Those 2 ranges, rimfire and
black powder are far enough apart that they do not interfere with each other.
All of the other ranges, 2 CF rifle ranges, the 2 handgun ranges along with the 4 trap ranges
however are closed on that day. Only rimfire, which is a competition only and black powder
competition are held that weekend, from Friday to Monday inclusive. Each of those disciplines
have their own rules and registered competitors only are allowed to shoot in them & at their
respective ranges. THEY must abide by the rules for each discipline. There is no casual shooting
at either of those respective ranges on that weekend.
