I get the satisfaction of pulling this off with some pretty old manual glass.

Yep ~ agree! I also have a smaller Olympus EP-L and it works well too.

At the end, as saying at the beginning, I found Samsung cellphones (my current one is an 'old' S9 and I started using Samsung since a S8 and if it died, I would keep on buying the S series for the photo output result... ) works well too...

Just came back from a cottage trip to the Owen Sound area and lake Huron... ImageImage

I would do a little footwork before committing to a brand new m/f lens.

If you are in the GTA, a stroll down Queen St. E. would turn up a bit of info.
I know Henry's is still there, and possibly Hirsch and a few others.

An adapter for your Canon may be worth looking into.
There is a lot of Pentax screw mount stuff still around.
Most of the old Super Takumar's are optically decent enough, and dirt cheap to boot.

I've seen favorable reviews on the 7 Artisans line.
Other than being ultra fast, they don't do anything that my some-what slower Nikkors don't.

You could go the more difficult route and get an adapter to Canon FD, but that glass is getting a bit scarce.
Prices are rising on it. The FD 50mm 1.8 is one of the better lenses I have tried.
A bit colder than Nikkor rendition, but still vey nice.

I miss my old S-6 for the close up stuff. Many of the scope and gun photo's I posted here were taken with it.
My sister is still using her S-8, but it's getting a little long in the tooth with some functionality issues surfacing.

For those interested in manual photography on digital, there's a forum a bit like this one:

http://forum.mflenses.com/

Lot's of info there, and photographers with abilities far superior to mine...

A very interesting post and bring back memories. My first 35mm camera was a Nikon FE2 and I ended up with most of the accessories for it including MD 12 motor drive, and right angle view finder, and I still have all this equipment. What I really enjoyed was macro nature photography and I have 3 macro lenses 55mm, 100m & 200 mm as well as an assortment of other Nikor lenses. When digital photography started taking over, I stayed with Nikon buying a D300S simply because I could continue to use my manual Nikor macro lenses with it. Unfortunately other hobby's - 1st my walleye boat, and now my air guns have gotten in the way of my photography, but this post is telling me I should maybe find time to re-visit it.

So much to do, so little time - LOL.

Thanks for bringing back the memories.

Bill

One of the advantages (I've found, anyways) to fixed focal length non-macro manual focus lenses is their close focus abilities.

50mm f2 nikkor at f5.6 at sunset.
At the minimum focus stop.
Focus assist on the D-200 struggles in situations like this, and I have to eye-ball the focus off the "ground glass".

85mm f1.8 nikkor at f8 and minimum focus stop.

50mm f2 nikkor again at min focus. Wide open at f2...

I bought my 7D from Henry's in a package with a zoom kit lens. Also a tripod which is the base of my FX chrony and a monopod which is my shooting stick.... [emoji38]

Then later for taking marco shots, I used a cheap resolution at the beginning.... The lens extending rings~ however in a later time I invested the famous 100mm f/2.8L which I love so so so much~ and also a huge investment on my hobbies...

I read the 7Artisan new 50mm f/0.95 on a Chinese online magazine and said will be in store on Aug.08, price range should be around 250 CAD?! And it has different models for different brands and no need for extra adapters... ImageImageImage

Looks I really takes shootings (both airgun and camera) as a hobby and relaxing way to release pressures... Like Joker always say 'Why so serious? ' (I know he's actually the most serious guy in the heart and so sad...), I never struggle to achieve a special result.... I know, no a good way to get improvements... But just don't want to turn my hobbies into my job, just have fun is good enough IMO...

Woah- better put on the brakes there. Who said anything about serious?
Definitely not me- it's how I enjoy myself.
The intense concentration is nothing like work at all...

Similar concentration to taking out the 10 ring 5 shots outdoors at 25 yds in light cross-winds with a rifle and pellet I like.

[emoji38] not really seriously... And no offence at all~ I apologize if my ESL makes it wrong~

I always see my wife struggling on using her iPhone to shoot her plants on the dining table in the night and the 'warm romantic light ' from the lamp and ask me to use my phone to help her as my photo looks better....

And I refused.... And say I will take the shot tomorrow morning if the sun come out and not raining any more ~ ;)

I don't even want to try the Pro mode with my camera app either.... Even it might work out a 'not too bad' photo...

Maybe just I am too lazy... Like I don't like pellet testing and just do it if necessary... ;)
