The flat spring engaging the opening lever to my FAS 6004 broke. I have no idea where it went. I just noticed one day that the pistol lever was not engaging and the pistol would not lock closed. Any one have any ideas where I can get one of these things? Thanks in advance....

I got desperate. When no one had responded, needs must. I thought I'd just try something... anything... otherwise, I'd just have an expensive paperweight.

Since the spring looked simple enough, I thought I'd try making one. I started with a paper clip. Well, that worked for about a half dozen openings before the 'spring' just would not spring back.

I then tried one of those clips you find when you purchase a new shirt (the ones you find in place of a pin). That worked for about a couple of dozen openings.

So... back to google, amazon, ebay to look for a 'flat spring'. One of the results included a 'coiless safety pin'. It looked promising. It was on amazon (I think). Did a quick check on google and it was listed for sale at my local Walmart and cost under $6 for a 100 pins. Did a quick snip using steel clippers...

On successful installation, it seems to work quite well. After a couple of hundred shots, the spring works as it did after I initially put it in. I am so glad I found this solution. :drinkers:

One other thing to note. It actually took quite some time and many attempts to properly install the new spring. The first half dozen attempts would pinch the spring into one of the plates or the lever and would not work smoothly. I then realized that I could just insert the spring after I put all the plates back together...

Another bonus... if this breaks again, I've still got another 99 replacement parts
