I attended the post office today to ship out an under 500 FPS rifle. I had it in a hard rifle case, zip tied and then wrapped in brown paper. It of course still looks like a gun case (same dimensions). One of the Canada Post employees asked it if was a gun advising Canada post will no longer be shipping guns. I explained it was an under 500fps pellet rifle and was not in fact a firearm. The other employee there said that it should be fine and processed the package.
I the other employee asked again about this apparently new policy and they too said they’ve been informed they are no longer shipping firearms.

I went home and have checked online and see nothing stating they aren’t shipping firearms. I thought maybe this was a brand new policy given the Covid situation and their new method of dropping parcels at the door without signature. Maybe they’ve had a few too many reports of stolen packages containing guns? I can’t find anything suggesting this is the case. Anyone else have any similar issues recently?

if you're shipping a firearm then you better follow all applicable laws.

this is a Canada post policy because of Covid and not a new law, you have a sub 500 you're selling and shipping...........ship it, its not a firearm in that sense, it does not need to be packaged in a rifle lookalike box either, a simple rectangular box would do like the one the original pellet rifle came with, wrapped in paper there would no problem, i shipped some recently and there are simply no questions asked, within Canada its also not going through customs where it would subjected to a search, simple right :)

cheers

There are plenty of other options out there if Canada post doesn’t suit your fancy.

We are talking firearms. This wasn't a requirement like a week or two ago. It doesn't matter if you have a small business account or not. It could have be shipped the same way either way. Now they making people have to open a small business account. By the sounds they just want people to make accounts, to track whos selling firearms.

Actually depending where it going, there is xray. So box could be assumed a firearm and put to the side for further searching. Has in the past.

Proof of age is now required, which only signature required was.

Due to changes to our delivery processes for COVID-19, all firearms must be shipped by Regular or Expedited Parcel and include the Proof of Age option. Consumers have to open a Solutions for Small Business account and create labels for shipping firearms using the online shipping tool, Snap Ship.

Not really. Only other company that will ship firearms is CanPAR.

Well I’ve got two rifles on route to my place right now, one through FedEx, and one through Canada post. Go figure.

Do these rules apply to non-PAL airguns?

I understand many of the airgun vendors in Canada are still using Canada Post, UPS, etc.

Vendors will have a small business license..This really effects regular people.

FYI you don't need to have a business to apply. My guess it is just a ploy to make it harder for private sellers, to sell guns.

Yikes . I bought a non pal springer and it was shipped before about a week ago. Was supposed to be here last week. I wonder if it’s held up for some crazy reason...

Probably not, because all CP shipping is very slow right now. You should be able to track it and see where it's moving.

Remove the bolt from any automatic firearm. Perhaps Canada Post should have done a little research before writing policy. LOL

Mine sat in limbo in Montreal for a bunch of days. Took 10 - 12 days to come from out east to Ontario. It will come. CHEERS!
