I got my brand new Umarex Ruger 10/22 a few days ago, and thanks to Jbanel for his thread, I knew what to do first before shooting the rifle.

I repeatedly pushed the square button on the mag by hand, and hard it was. I cycled it about 45-50 times, then put it in the rifle and dry-fired it 5 times in double action, and 5 times in single action, using my Wheeler Engineering trigger pull weight gauge. Average pull weigth in DA was 8 lb 1 oz, and in SA that was 2 lb 15 oz, about normal according to what I saw in reviews. Feeling was ''unequally gritty''.

After having a close look at the mag, I decided to open it to see if/how things could be improved. First remove the 10-shot rotary clip, then lay the mag on its left side (right side up). You'll see three screw holes (pic #2), remove the 3 screws. Be careful as they're tiny and easy to loose! Then if you look at pic #1, you see the red arrow pointing at a small tab, you need to gently insert a small blade underneath this tab, while pushing in on the other tab pointed by the green arrow. Then you can separate the two mag halves. Again, be careful here, parts can get airborne when you open the mag  . You could use a clear plastic bag when doing this, as a safety measure.

In third pic you see how the parts were when I opened the mag, there's a little grease on the ''push button'' sides, but nowhere else. Also a few burrs, and rather rough contact surfaces. The two springs are rather heavy, and contributes to the weight of the trigger pull. I compressed them to coil bind for a few seconds, that ''set'' them lighter than they were, and it showed.

In the first pic you see the parts, about how they are positionned in the mag. Second picture is a close-up of the small parts. As I said contact surfaces were somewhat rough, so I used #2000 wet/dry sand paper to polish them and deburr the edges. I then mixed dielectric grease with 30W silicone oil 1/1, and applied this ''sauce'' to all pivots and contact surfaces. In third pic you see the parts back together in the left mag half, ready to be re-assembled. When you put back together the 2 halves, you will need to push out the tab pointed by a green arrow in my first post, from inside the clip well.

After re-assembly, there was definitely a nice improvement in trigger weight. I repeated the test I made with the trigger pull weight gauge, and got this: in DA, it went down to 5 lb 5 oz, and in SA it's now 1 lb 9 oz. The trigger feels much smoother, but there's still some ''grittiness'', so I suspect the trigger/bolt mechanism could use some TLC too. I found the heaviest weight is in the last 1/16'' of pull. But, the mag tune is definitely worth it IMO. I shot one mag (10 shots) with JSB RS 7.33 grains @ 20 feet, in SA (bolt cocked before each shot), using the iron sights and got a group under 3/8'', so accuracy seem to be there :) .
