I thought, hell, for being practically free, why not give it a try?

Feels decently balanced, the trigger has some creep and about a 5 lb break, but for 35 bucks I can't complain. The sights are metal, the trigger is metal, barrel and body are metal. Trigger guard and stock is composite.

The rear sight is only adjustable for elevation. You lift up the sights with one hand and move the slider up and down with the other. The front sight post is metal and hooded, and is thinner than I expected (which I prefer). It has dovetail rails for a scope too.

The B1-1 air rifle (Not sure what company produces it. Let's just say China  ) came quite dirty from the factory; that brown Chinese factory grease was everywhere. After about 12 dry passes with my bore snake, it got most of the gunk out and I finally passed some clp oil through the bore. Rifling appears sharp, even and shiny now.
Seal seems intact and had some of that grease on it too. Most of it was cleaned by me prior to my first shots. I also tightened the screws a bit more.

On to the first shots: distance was 12 meters in my basement. Standing offhand. First 5 shots all went 2 inches high and 1.5 in to the left. I didn't want to mess with the rear sight so I used needle nose pliers to bend the front sight post. Shot a 10 - shot group at 12 meters standing. It measured 0.89 inches. What more could you ask from a $34.99 springer?

My first attempt at shooting this. 10 shot group, standing at 12 meters using the JSB Exact RS pellets. A 0.89" 10 shot group with a $35 springer? Good bargain, I'd say!

The only eye - opener for me is the lack of any safety mechanism. Your finger is the only safety in this one. But again, what can you expect from a dirt - cheap spring piston air rifle?

Another issue I had was actually not with the air rifle itself, but with Princess Auto not advertising the product correctly. All of the local ones near me seem to be selling the black synthetic versions, while advertising the wooden version on their site.

Obviously you can't compare this to a Weihrauch but all - in - all, for being practically free, it's a great little shooter.

It is what it is. There is B1 wood stock version currently available for about that.
Is yours .177 cal or .22cal?
There is a .22 cal syn .22 cal in the sale flyer, out of stock now, says its made by Tarco.. I couldn't find any info on it either.

I thought so too, but actually, none of the local Princess Autos carry the wooden one at the moment. They all have the synthetics, as it seems. It's the .177 cal

Yeah that's exactly what it shows for me, but when I inquired with four of the closest stores to me, none of them carried the wooden one and the SKU # only yielded the synthetic version. You physically saw a wooden one in your local shop?

Nope, physical distancing. Good to know, I'd be awfully pissed off if i ordered a wood one and got a plastic. The .22 cal springer (out of stock) says manufactured by Tarco - couldn't find squat about it.

The definition of cheap plinker. Good value for the price but no safety. I know in the PB community it is a popular stance that your finger is the safety but I don't think this translates well to airguns as there is a significant reduction in overall safety awareness and practice. Not to mention no safety certification required yet potentially devastating injury capable.

I absolutely agree. Although we should all behave as responsible adults when handling all types of shooting devices (I'm a PAL owner), a lack of any safety just spells trouble. I am still not sure what to make of it. Maybe I shouldn't be promoting this air rifle after all. But in any case, what they instill in our heads in firearms training is that you should never trust a safety to begin with.

If the front sight is dovetailed, why not drift the sight over in the dovetail to the left, to make it shoot to the right (instead of bending it).
If you bend it straight now, it is likely to break.
Dovetailed sights are quite available, as well.
http://www.trackofthewolf.com has sights. A small 3-corner file will be necessary to 'size' them for the dovetail in your barrel, if you want to replace the
bent/broken sight.
Of course, a front sight replacement will cost almost as much as that rifle, once you get it here.

No dovetail there. All front sight components are welded into place.

Sry- I misinterpreted your statement about the scope base dovetailing.

I was at Princess Auto last weekend, bought one just for laughs

took it out of the box and plastic bag, wiped the oil dripping from it, ran a few patches in the barrel to clean some of that stuff, scoped it and took a few shots to bring it near zero, shot for groups at 70 feet with Rs pellets, the circle is dime size

what a horrible trigger, feels like 8 pounds, think i'll take it apart and polish the sear

That's the spirit, for the price of 1/2 a tank of gas, why not, right?
I could see this being a decent project air rifle; especially for those who want to practice tuning airguns.
Yeah, the trigger takes some getting used to.......Interested to see how your tune turned out.
