A mint condition Winchester Coony semi in 22 long cal. Plastic 5 shell clip. Has long skinny scope. Has the sights front and back. Has carved rabbits on stock and nice checkering on it. Owner said he has never shot it. Embedded in the stock it is a maple leaf made of colored triangles. Says "Township of Toronto Confederation Centennial 1867 - 1967" Very light gun like a kids starter gun. Anyone have an idea of value? I found some plain jane stocks, no carving used between 2 and 3 hundred dollars. CHEERS!

May get it appraised before I change scope and shoot it.

The older ones with the rabbit engraved in the stock were usually tube fed magazines. Yours sounds like it has an older stock on a newer action(magazine fed) Can you post pictures?

Nice old rifle. It is worth only what you can get out of it. This varies with location & time frame.
I would think $200.00 to $250.00 might work. Around here, maybe $150.00 to $200.00.
I don't have an up-to-date black or blue book.

I find all guns selling for $100 to $150 over top of the blue book values these days. My first thought was a new scope and shoot it. I have an old Squires Bingham in a semi I bought 50 years ago in .22 and it out shoots any of my other .22's. Shoots like a dream. All I ever take to range anymore are my 22mags, 22's, 17HMR and 22-250.. Take out big guns at $40 - $45 for a 20 shells is not fun anymore. Going to start taking pellet guns now since they have not seen the outdoors in three years since getting back into them. LOL

Gosh, no! Not at that price. I am sure my handloads aren't that high.
I make handloads at $13.74 to $15.00 per 20 depending on calibre. I
handload for all of them. I have 42 sets of dies & 5 presses + 3 shotshell presses.
I don't know how anyone could shoot factory only & become proficient, due to the
costs involved.

Pretty cool find there! Worth hanging onto I'd think!
Here's a old 1967 cbc story about the Winchester Western plant making Cooey rifles.

Yeah but costs you several hundred for the start up cost of the supplies, dies, press etc.. If you don't reload.

Well you have to look at it this way. You buy a case of ammo for say 500$. By the time you get a press, and the supplies, the range time etc to make a load that works, you probably exceed the cost of the case. And to some that all they need.

Like I need to reload for 308. I still need the dies, the primers, powder, the bullets and case trim tools. For a gun I may shoot 60 rds a year. The days of 10$ surplus 762 Nato is no more.

Winchester Canada would make commemorative gun every year starting in 1964. 1967 they made a Canadian Centennial (90,301)produced
And Alaska Purchase Centennial (1500) produced. Both sold new for $125. No mention of the Munisipality of Toronto version.

https://winchestercollector.org/winches ... moratives/

Looks like it was a special order for my gun perhaps as they did do special orders.

I wonder if it was for a school shooting team, or a school gun program in Toronto? IE bought a rifle and slapped a sticker on it for a gift or something. I know because talking to some of the older guys at the club. About the shooting program the local highschool had in the school. Plenty of schools had shooting program from what I understand.

Plan jane 64s I see around 150-250. But what people post them for, doesn't mean they are worth that much. I see people trying to sell Cooey 75s for 300$, yet not to long ago. I picked up a Eaton Ranger ( Cooey 78 ) with the peep sight and both apertures for 80$.

Sounds to me that someone slapped a sticker on the stock on a rifle they purchased, and gave it out as a "Township of Toronto Confederation Centennial 1867 - 1967" as a gift. Because they did a big parade and celebration, with awards to school athletes.

There are plenty of knowledgeable Cooey collector on CGN that may have more information on it.

You are thinking along the same lines I am leadslinger. Only difference is the sticker is embedded in the stock. So it would have came from factory like that as a special order for what ever group ordered them.

I too prefer my Squires 20P over my ruger and others i have owned, countless shells through it and still functions great!
It was dads crittergitter and had to have a trigger made for it but worth every penny

LOL- was just thinking at today's prices, 42 sets of dies at an average of $50.00 per set = $2,100.00.
5 rifle/handgun presses at $200 my shotshell presses are/were more, so about = $2,000.00
82 sets of mould blocks at $120.00 (some are way more, some less = $9,840.00
Powder now is about $45.00 per pound and bullets $60.00 to $85.00 per C. & primers $6.50 per C.
Yes, prices have gone up somewhat.
I started off with a pair of Lee Loaders @ $12.00 ea.
I think they are likely $30.00 now & work just fine for beginners in the 'sport'.
There is cheaper equipment "out there" if you look for it.
