That's the idea. I've done that several times in other situations.

Truth is in the pudding I guess but as for the work I do on the barrels, they are crowned and lapped at the muzzle and the breech is cleaned up and polished with jewellers rouge. I then inspect them under a diamond setters scope for concentricity and burrs at the rifling. The crowning and chamfering are done on a German Benzinger lathe with less than 1/1000th of a inch runout at 4”. All my tooling is indexable carbide. The challenge for me is that I don’t always have the gun to test the barrel which is the case with the pp700sa barrels we are discussing. Like I said in a earlier post I value the feedback and would love to see some paper results.

Jay

This works out well!! Very difficultly gave it about one full turn, then it became easy and I used my fingers to get the nut out with the barrel together...... Uhhh! Yes... The barrel comes out together ~ Is it saving me some time or something wrong? But looks it's the design....

And one more question... The new barrel is to be just the same to screw it in?! Is that easy?

And from the previous discussion, why I need to loose the hammer things or I can just leave that as original but just screw in the new barrel to finish it?

I have my setup below now... Things are not tightened but just give some idea.... Looks I can use the normal size one piece mount again but just have half of it tighten to the action?!

Oh, and I remember when i worked on the Chaser, there are small seals at the end of the barrel between the action to seal the air, but looks the PP700 doesn't have this design obviously.... Is that okay?

I plan to wrap the screw treads on the barrel with some white film before putting it in... Is that good?

Yep you should be good to wrap a little Teflon tape on the threads. Can’t see it being a problem. You don’t need to tighten too much on the barrel, hand tightening a bit should be good. Because the bluing was machined away probably a good idea to silicone oil the bare metal before you assemble it.

There is a set screw under the front sight. That keeps the barrel shroud nut from backing off. I found that out the first time trying to tighten the barrel nut because my shroud was a little loose.

With the barrel length increase what is the FPS now?

Yes, I followed your guy's previous post to work on my PP700. Mine has the set screw under the front sight, and plus very tight on itself~

Have no time to shoot it yet, will do in the evening or tonight ~ mine is shooting 450/460fps before, I think it can do 480 now?!

Finished about 30 shots with the new barrel, in general, it's satisfying! However it's not loving the RWS hobby anymore which groups from one hole to an inch from 9 yards away... Tried some RS, grouped much better in about 1/2 inch. Need to try more different pellet to find out her new lover...

However before doing pellet test, a more headache thing need to be done first... The new barrel looks added about 40fps on top! My previous record was using Crosman Domed 14.3g which I have no more in the house. Converted into fpe, the power using 13.4g RS added about 1.3fpe which is about 40fps on 14.3g 'standard weight' pellet... And the output is not as consistent as before, so I have to adjust the output of the gun first to make it back to a good level than start picking the pellet again~

And looks I can use the same scope setup to attach the one piece mount on the action with just half of the length and it doesn't make any difference.... Surprisingly, I do NOT need to re zero the scope.....

Picture -
POA were circled ones
1/2/3 - 3 major groups
Group1 using RWS Hobby
Group2 was about 13/15 shots something, mainly checking the muzzle speed, using RS
Group3 was 5 or 6 shots , using RS

Using a 4x32 cheapo non AO scope.... I will be putting on a new 4x32 Hawke AO for the new setup later~ Image

Looks good so far!! Break that barrel in and get your settings balanced properly and perhaps get yourself some jsb pellets. I think Wes has barrel bands that will work for you as well. I’m sure the pp700sa wasn’t engineered to have that much barrel hanging from it. Keep me posted.

Yeah, I need to balance the power output and break in the barrela, and so far so good!

The barrel is thick, strong and promising... Looks should be fine without a band... However looks need some time to get used to this kind of 'floating' design as this is my first gun like this ~ right now I looks like handling a baby and always avoid touching the barrel~ [emoji38]

Some guys like to take the right size o ring and slip it over the air chamber for a little support for the barrel. The o ring would be big enough to take up the gap between your barrel and air chamber.

That looks strange~ but easy to be done if you have the right size o ring handy.... This idea reminds me if I can shape a PTFE block to slip it into the gap to provide some support as I just have a rod in the house~

[emoji38] maybe just put some hot glue to fill the gap~
