Yes, ordinary paper tears badly. Even target paper can tear poorly with low velocity, of course.
Aggravating.

Every target I print goes on Card Stock paper. Then I glue all targets on thin cardboard like oven made pizza boxes, TV dinner boxes ect. Saves on recycle bins I put out on the street because all boxes are cut up. On my big homemade target box I use the flat bottom of a case of 24 beer or pop cans box. That target I just glue on another paper till I end up with about 10 targets then I start a fresh cardboard. I often wonder what recycle driver thinks every week with all my shot out targets. Driver is likely more focused on my compose bin with my new growing hobby in an indoor tent. LOL

Using beer boxes for backing paper is a good idea. I use those for card wads for my Sharps buffalo rifle.
Perfect wad thickness. Of course, one box "goes" a long way.
