My apologies.....I stated the 2240 shoots at 460fps with a 14.3...my mistake...thats the American Version of the pistol. Canadian guns are detuned and chrony @460fps with a 10 grain alloy..... :(

Are those speeds actually chronographed, or suggested by the mfg'r?

yes this is a chrony of a stock gun off you tube..I dont have a 2240 to test..Im pretty sure its no coincidence that all airguns that come into Canada shoot well below the 500 mark with a 14.3..it is to leave room for testing with 10 grain alloy pellets....Obviously if 14.3s were the gold standard for testing...manufacturers would surely set the guns for maximum speed with a 14.3....but we dont see that fps unless you use the very light alloys...

I chronied a brand new 2240 on Aug26,it was 21*C,with super H point 14.2gr.
Average over 10 shots was 407 Ft/sec.
Installed the 10" barrel,same conditions,averaged 446.5 Ft/sec.
I wonder what a 12" barrel would bring it up to?

your numbers prove my point....drop in a 10 grain and give it a go...remember that even 501fps with a very light 10 gr.alloy ...technically puts you over the limit.......P.S. i wont be commenting on fps limits anymore....to each his own and good luck... :D

I doubt RCMP use light weight alloys. Because when they made the law, I don't think there was any alloy light weight pellets available.

Now the manufacture may, because speed sells. Look at how many people buy an airgun that rated for 1200 FPS, really think its 1200 FPS. Its like people that think their cars have the actual HP that says in the specs. Was always funny watching kids on the Dyno, with their Hondas and bolt on. Thinking they have X amount of HP. Because they said that the cold air intake is 10 HP.

Maybe in California, with a tuned fuel map.

you may be right....thats a good point...it COULD be just an advertising gimmick now that alloy pellets are available .....

I dont believe there is a Canadian version of a 2240, the numbers I have read from American owners wouldnt be a problem here.

Yeah even Crosman.com list it up to 460 FPS.

Even in the manual

Quote:
PERFORMANCE
Many factors affect velocity, including brand of projectile, type of projectile, amount of CO2 in cartridge, lubrication, barrel
condition and temperature.

I know the older Crosmans they used to list the velocities with what pellet, at what temp.

But even a note..

Quote:
Initial velocity listed may exceed average to 15%

Yeah looking at manuals, till like 96. They were putting velocities with the pellet weight in some of their manuals.

Crosman using 7.9 for the standard 177, 14.3 for the 22, and 5.5 grn for BB.
