Came across this article during my morning read.

https://globalnews.ca/news/7399797/otta ... rime-guns/

First and foremost thank you to Ottawa police for getting firearms out of the hands of those who clearly should not possess them.

On the Ottawa police rep who relayed the SKS was an assault rifle, come on. Are you trying to tell me the SKS had select fire? I realize what you are trying to do and it's wrong. Same to Craig who wrote the article. Shame on you.

ok sorry about that, back to my coffee...

Media/RCMP term to make it sound more scary.

Like my AR = Assault Rifle, Their service rifle ( same gun ) = Patrol Carbine.

But RCMP fails to realize that assault rifles been banned in Canada for many years.

Quote:
The U.S. Army defines assault rifles as "short, compact, selective-fire weapons that fire a cartridge intermediate in power between submachine gun and rifle cartridges."[16] In this strict definition, a firearm must have at least the following characteristics to be considered an assault rifle:[2][3][4]

It must be capable of selective fire.
It must have an intermediate-power cartridge: more power than a pistol but less than a standard rifle or battle rifle, examples of intermediate cartridges are the 7.92×33mm Kurz, the 7.62x39mm and 5.56×45mm NATO.
Its ammunition must be supplied from a detachable box magazine.[5]
It must have an effective range of at least 300 metres (330 yards).
Rifles that meet most of these criteria, but not all, are technically not assault rifles.

Semi-automatic-only rifles with fixed magazines like the SKS are not assault rifles; they do not have detachable box magazines and are not capable of automatic fire.

One of the clubs banned, Police from using their rifles on the range. If we cannot use them, they cannot. Or sorry we are not approved for prohibited guns.

If you want to have a good chuckle, as your local crown attorney for a list of "assault weapons" that were recently used... You'll most likely get a list that includes everything from kitchen knives, hammers, pointy sticks and high heels shoes... and I'll bet you a $1 there won't be any assault rifle in there

Exactly! No lawful civilian owned "AR's" used in any crime in Canada - ever - yet now they are prohibited to "keep Canadians safe".
"No lawful civilian owned "AR's" used in any crime in Canada - ever" - to my knowledge.
