FAIL. i thought i,d try and make one for the hell of it. i just used a piece of soft pine-- because it was very easy to sand. i cut the mold out with a skil saw from about a 3/4" piece. but after that i sanded the whole shape of it by hand. it actually matches the real grip almost perfectly. even if i do make the other side -- i would have to try and figure a way to connect them to the gun. it ain,t worth it. to hard. i wish i could make them like that guy on you tube. (marmax.) double click for big pic. maybe i,ll try a pair of 1911 ones they look easier.

thanks n. there,s two pretty bad gaps. one up top where it,s rounded and one on the very bottom. but this was just a try. the two in the top pic were my first attempt. i cut the wood in half first and they ended up too thin. i was thinking of embedding 4 rare earth magnets on the inside of the grip to attach it to the frame. lucky that i tested it first--the dam gun isn,t magnetic. if it was they would have worked perfectly.

Pete,

Regardless of what you said, it still looks like a fair job for your 1st attempt.

Can you screw the right side into the frame, like the original? For the left side, maybe try to screw in a metal clip. So you can clip it to the CO2 like on a Crosman 38 & other similar airgun. Someone must have the part, or a broke left grip.

Or try to stick 2 magnets to the CO2?

Will be interesting to see what it looks like after you finish staining it.

Once you perfect it, I would like to be your 1st customer for buying one or 2 sets.

Good luck.

I had a problem a while ago with my 9XP, the CO2 door did not want to stay closed, so I managed to glue a magnet on to the gun door that hold the door closed thru co2 cart). No need to stick the grip on the gun itself, most specially if the metal is non magnetic...

Both gun door are plastic... My CP99 compact was served the same modif.

thats a good idea silentman. i use those rare earth magnets for a lot of things. ok. so. the colt saa one was super hard--- so i think i,ll pass on those ones.so i turned my sanding hand to an easier grip project. get your minds outta the gutters--- i mean another gun grip project. i,m still using pine because it,s so soft i can probably chew it. if the pine turns out good i might go get some kind of nice hard wood. i made a mold and sanded it completely by hand again. one side down one to go. not too bad. double click for big pics. it,s just a rough try i still gotta sand it a bit more rounder.

well these 1911 grips were a little easier than the colts and didn,t turn out to bad. but still with my arthritic hand and a half they were a challenge. altogether now i,ve got 2 pairs of cocobolo ones that i got from a guy in costa rica that made them for me. this pair i just made and the original black ones. i just wanted to show them. sorry guys but i,m not really interested in making them to sell. double click for big pics.

The 1911 grip is relatively easy to make, I did one set 2 or 3 year's ago with a pieces of white maple. It sure is a lot of sanding but ounce varnish (that's all I had at that time ) to protect it it was great looking and so are yours they look great. Nicely done...

SilentMan... :drinkers:

So those red one to look great... 8)
