After retirement 2 years ago I moved to Renfrew County, Ontario to enjoy the countryside that my Dad was raised in....deer & turkey in my backyard, fantastic.
What got me back into air rifles after 40 years was a black squirrel that managed to get into my air tight wood stove this fall, I have a video clip & pictures of the perpetrator that I'll post some time.
I noticed a few black squirrels about but thought that since they weren't too numerous I wouldn't have any troubles....wrong. I guess the country squirrel is a bit smarter that the city bred kind, he came right down the steel chimney. He had a wicked leap to make the roof from the closest tree onto a metal roof!
So after releasing him unharmed I kept my eyes peeled for a sale on a pellet rifle, and found a Crosman Optimus on sale for $150 at Tractor Supply. Nice to see what that will buy nowadays, came with a scope and a ready supply of parts available.
Once the temps rise a bit I'm putting a dent in the local squirrel population...

Welcome aboard, and good luck with your "tree rat" problem. I'm not convinced that the country variety are any smarter than their city cousins. You are in a great area.
