According to the CBC and their "sources" a lockdown is looming for Southern Ontario starting on the 24th. Given that CBC is our government news outlet I can only assume that A:) The govt itself provided this info to test public reaction prior to the announcement, or B:) They grease palms well enough that their "sources" are reputable.

Wondering what everyone thinks of this? Myself, I don't know what to think anymore. I do know they when they locked down Toronto all that resulted in was people travelling outside the city and spreading it even worse, lockdown without travel restrictions is completely counter productive. At least this way there is no reason to go to another town to visit the Bass Pro or whatever. But I still wonder if this is the solution, I doubt our economy can handle a full lockdown at this point. Masks and other measures should be enough, but people need to follow those rules for them to work I guess.

And I also wonder at things like if the ICU's are going to be overwhelmed, where are the field hospitals then? Why aren't they building extra capacity? Why are the long term care homes still getting hammered by all this?

I don't know, it's early, I'm at work and can't really collect my thoughts properly. Thought maybe we all have a discussion and try to make sense of it.

In Yukon we currently have the borders closed and only a single active case currently. I suppose field hospitals are easy to build but very difficult to man. I do worry for our elderly and the healthcare workers, not so much for myself. Have to say I was disappointment when my youngish nephew told me he thought it was one big hoax.Think he is part of the problem. We are in this together and thats how we will get through.
Live free or die sounds pretty stupid to me if we are simply talking about wearing a mask and giving someone space.

I think you guys have the right idea with closing the borders. Good point with the field hospitals, it escaped me that we might not have the labor to fill them. Though we do have the armed forces. As for the live free or die bit, I find it humorous that the same people that are opposed to surveillance cameras are are also opposed to masks or face coverings. You would think they would have arms raised in joy that they could be completely anonymous when they go out now, but I guess it's more that they don't like being told what to do.

I'm also not overly concerned with myself getting it, but my wife and I both have parents in their 70's and that's where my worry is. My brother in law also thinks it's a hoax and some ploy to get people used to control, which is also funny that he thinks the general populace isn't already conditioned for that. While I do wonder if the seriousness has been exaggerated, there is no doubt in my mind that it is killing people.

I suppose the seriousness depends on how close to home this hits. My Mom is 85 and thank fully living in her own home and not in a shared facility. My Dad passed 2 years ago with all his kids at his bedside and cant say enough good things about our health care workers. Its depressing to think he would have died alone if he passed in 2020.
I also know how hard a small business has to struggle right now. Support small and local all you can.

Apparently, the lockdown will be for 28 days in southern Ontario, and 14 days in the north. Don't know where the dividing line will be.
Thunder Bay district has more cases and deaths now than the first wave.

Good question, I wonder if you are North enough? I think that after the holidays we will see a huge spike in the province, 28 days seems optimistic. In Niagara, where I am, we have seen the cases triple as of yesterday either from people mingling or from Toronto and Hamilton folks heading down this way (There has been a substantial increase). I don't think it will drop much in 28 days.

I have to believe that the timing is to mitigate, to some degree, the spike that most are expecting after the holidays. It should reduce the size of get togethers for those that take the pandemic seriously. I am sure there will be a spike, but reducing it even by a little would be ok.

I do worry for the businesses that are already stressed to the breaking point. A complicated issue for sure.

if everyone would just do there part and follow the restrictions and health guidelines
we wouldn't have to go through all these lockdowns, but what puzzles me
the most is why are there still travel flights being allowed....
that to me should have never started up until this was all over and cleared....

I am definitely seeing the indifference more than anything else around these parts. Part of it/most of it is surely from the burn out you mentioned. I think we are all feeling that to some degree.

Agree on the burnout, but this is the time to double down.
Sad when a Walmart greeter gets beat up for asking someone to wear a mask. You don't have to wear a mask unless you decide to go there. Thats what I call freedom.

Humour regarding covid19 is a little sparse, but here is an example I heard:
Covidiot tried to enter a Metro store without a mask. Staff would not let him in. He left muttering "sheeple".
Normal person in line behind me said, " He probably won't get infected. The virus attacks lungs, not a-holes"
A general chuckle ensued.

I wrote this big long write up on my thoughts and erased it.

Don't be a COVIDIOT.

Wear a Mask
Wash your hands
Don't gather at Christmas.

That is all...

I can't understand the resistance to putting a mask on .I put them on at work all the time for the last 32 years some times for weeks on end .And the rudeness of some of the people why
