Yes! Totally agree that it's an on going process and you can just use the oil as a regular service method ~

I am thinking of putting back on the stock... Haven't shoot my Pro Sport for weeks already ~

(mine looks always looks better on the picture... [emoji38] I love this color, but in real world it looks a bit more brownish than the red tone on the picture)Image

That AA stock is really nice, YepYep. Appears to be almost filled completely.
If striving for the piano finish, after sanding down to the wood the last time, only
the pores have oil in them. Then 3 tin coats and it's done. Then if you want, a
polish with a rouge powder and oil (finish) paste and its done.
Browning and Weatherby attemped this type of finish in years past as well as to-
day, but they failed to make the stocks smooth before they applied a dipped plastic/
epoxy finish. Done in oil is much better. The only gun I have now with this type of
finish to show, is my flintlock pistol, finished with True Oil & VERY thin coats.
The scanned pistol picture I thought was quite intriguing. Can be viewed by clicking on the link.

[emoji38] long story short... It's that piano look before which the first time I finished it in that way and found looks the walnut not looking good in that way like my beech HW30 and FWB... So I redo it following the advice from a good man here with the new purchase of the pure tung oil not the one from Minwax which pre-mixed with varnish. And finally I got what I have now and feel better than before...

Below is what it looks like before. Again, better looks on the picture but in real world, I found it too glossy....

I prefer what it looks on the HW35E, so I get it done again on the other way...

Sorry... Have no idea about the upside down photos... That's the fault of the artificial intelligence challenged system...

By Piano Finish, I am referring to the pores in the wood's grain being filled, not just being shiny all over. The pores are not filled
on your stocks, YepYep.
A piano finish, ie: perfectly filled pores, can then be rubbed back with pumice or rotten-stone or even lightly rubbed with 4 ought
steel wool to get a dull or satin finish if that is what is desired.

Lightly sanded with 1000 grit sand paper, one more coat of Antique Oil rubbed in. I think I am done with this stock for now.Image

You are right! I misunderstood the definition before and I know what you are talking about.

At the beginning, I was just thinking about a little 'add on' treatment on the stock as it's already looks good~ So Minwax tung oil after a sanding (more like just a 'cleaning') with the 0000# steel wool... And it became shiny high glossy with the varnish then...

And then when I want to lower down the high gloss with wet sanding using fine sand paper, I then discovered why ppl called the AA stock the unfinished bare wood stock....

Then re-do, re-sand, re-fill.... Took me weeks to what it looks like now... Later having time, I will post the long story~ [emoji38] :drinkers:

Looks good to me. NO, not piano-type, but very nice, none-the-less.
