Unfortunately, Police are now under close media scrutiny. So both the officers on the street & top brass worry about what the backlash will be if they shoot & kill a youth that confronts them with a replica BB Gun.

Police have been asking for this ban for a while.

What I don't understand about the replica's, is that replica guns that are not firearms, are already prohibited.
There must have been a loop-hole in the way it is written in "the code". For 40 years, I have been under the impression
that this was written into Martin's Criminal Code of Canada to protect police if they happened to shoot someone who
threatened them with a replica gun (air soft gun). In that the replica gun was already prohibited, it was illegal.
If the gun used is a BB gun, then it is capable of causing grievous bodily harm, thus already was a weapon - thus no need
for their "defense" that it was in possession contrary to the Crim. Code.
BB guns and Pellet guns that look like real firearms, are still firearms if used as such. They are "not" firearms only in light of licensing requirements.
AirSoft guns that look identical to real firearms are replica guns, are they not? They are not capable of causing grievous bodily harm, thus
they are prohibited according to the code - yet they aren't - why is this?

Anyway, that is how I understand the "situation".

I can also understand why the government might want to ban/prohibit ALL replica-like BB guns and Pellet guns. It all adds to the "desired" end result
as noted earlier in this thread.

Looks like airsoft guns are considered to be able to cause serious body harm - here's how lawyer explains it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YT4jtjCVdpw

I just spoke our new conservative nominee and also emailed our Liberal MP about concerns around this. As already noted on this thread, please do not drop the ball on this and email your MP about this.

This is going to put many businesses out of job and yet I hardly see much action from anyone to put all retailers together to voice our concerns.

I will try to email other fellow retailers in Ontario so that they can all write to their MPs.

Please do your part and write an email/letter.

Well put Raman.

Maybe a good idea for all the people in Canada that have a widely watched video following, like Michael Kaye @ Replica Airguns & others to make a video on this subject, to help get the word out to the community.

I'm sure Ian Runkle will be along shortly. Airgun Source has the CCFR video on the top of their homepage.

So if airguns are going to be banned, restricted or prohibited, does it mean that you will need to show a PAL to buy BB & pellets?

Like buying ammunition now.

It's not as bad as it looks on the surface, it's
MUCH WORSE! It will take a lawyer to sift through
the proposed legislation to figure out the reason for
the wording used.
As Blaire said last Spring, the wording was chosen very carefully.
You can bet on that especially concerning shotguns.

That's the question you should be asking your MP, but he or she will not know, either.

No. They do not meet the definition of ammunition under the current law. They would need to rewrite that as well, which they have not done in this draft.
This will likely die on the table due to an election, but when Dear Leader is re-elected again, you can bet it will be back, and likely in a revised and even worse form.

You can bet on that. There is hope, however thin.

Here is an issue that Wes noticed -

I will explain with an example. Lets talk about KRAL Puncher Jumbo. We sell both full powered version and low powered version of this gun. Obviously, you need a non-restricted PAL to buy the full powered version(firearm). However, the full powered version now has a "replica" which is a de-tuned version (i.e. below 500 fps). So as per this law, as long as you have the license you can buy the full powered gun, but the de-tuned version will be a "prohibited" item that no one can sell anymore. But you are ok to keep it for now if you own one.

Now, how stupid is all this.

EDIT: Same applies on PP700, PP750, Diana Chaser, Diana Stormrider and the list goes on and on.
