Flat nosed pellets, that is, 10 meter match pellets can give good accuracy to about 20yards - 25yards might be pushing the
accuracy on them.
They are designed for great accuracy at close range started at about 580fps to 610fps in .177. In .22 or .25, it's anyone's
guess, I guess - or how they actually shoot in your rifle. Not so hot in my higher speed rifles, but did well in the 10 meter
.177 HWB, right to 25 yards, started at 600fps.
Pointed pellets usually do not give great accuracy. That's a general statement, but might not be the rule with your rifle.

Yes, they probably are a wasn't of time. I don't really need to invest any more in pellets at the moment. I did shoot the jsb's and was pretty happy with plinking performance. Nothing was formal, the weather was crap. I'm hopeful that the hunter x will shoot good as they showed good consistency.

Back in the day the wadcutters were our hollow points. Laid a pretty good smack down on whatever it was I was shooting... we had points, domed and WC. Pellet gun stuff was scarce.

Just a quick observation.
I put a 20 gram x .40" brass spacer in the piston just to see what gains I might get.

Well I lost 30fps with the jsb's and 20fps with the hunter extremes.

Was also a much less pleasant shot cycle.

Got out to the farm today and did some shooting.
Of course I had a buddy with me, he was shooting at the same target as me with his .177 rifle, making a mess of things. So I Marked my shots.
I'm surprised the jsb kings didn't actually shoot so well.
The ftt and hunter x show some promise.
I was shooting from a sand bag at 30 yards, with a typical Alberta cross wind. Factory iron sights.

Think I'll install my Williams receiver sight for the next outing.

Open sights?- That FTT target sure looks good, considering the range and any wind.
The bottom right hand group BHX as well.

Yeah just open sights. I'm pretty happy with it at this point.
Considering the barrel pivot pin was drilled partially thru the bore, I was looking at it wondering "what's that little spot?", Poked at it from the hole side and now there's a little raised bump in the barrel. Gotta lap it now or something...
But the wind around here is usually a constant 10kmh, with gusts. So there is that. Not sure how much it really affects things at 30 yards.
Peep sight should tighten things up a bit though.

And those dang starlings only let me get within 50 yards of them... might have to camo up and hide.

If possible, the inner dimple would have to be pushed back down, not have any metal removed. Yikes.
Wind does effect with pellets even close than that - does with .22LR as well.
The wind closest to the shooter has the most effect, as a minor push close to you, is magnified further out.
Oft times, BR shooters have told me the wind in the first 25 yards is the most serious.
If you can consistently shoot like the upper right group at 30yards, you should be happy. Better, of course would
be better.
Camo helps, ground blinds help, sitting still with partial cover also helps. 50 yards is a good poke for any springer.
My HW did it on gophers, but it's not a break-barrel springer.
With the current accuracy, with THAT pellet, a scope might get you to 50yards with that rifle as-is.

Also having trouble getting Starlings within 50yds. When ever the dog hears the gun load, tears out and scares them away barking.

Need to extend the range to around 50 or a little more. Dog has gotten wise to the D34 (20-30yds)range, need the 350 more often now.

You know, I never thought about wind that way. I always pictured the bullet would just drift with the wind. But it does make sense. I've never had much luck with long range shooting in the wind.

I think I can make a 50 yard shot with this rifle. Off hand I can hit a pop can at 30 yards pretty easy... and that was using the jsb's. So, shooting from a bench is probably giving me different poi. That or I was lucky.

Haha yeah when I was a kid my dog would lose his mind when he saw or heard the gun. He was a good squirrel hunter.

My Springer used to do that whenever I took a shotgun out of the lockup. It's BIRD time.

Well it's been a slow process. Made some conical washers from delrin for the forward stock screw holes, installed some sling swivel studs and a paracord sling I made. Drilled and tapped the barrel for a normal ramp sight (Xs front sight right now but I have another one I might use which is what I drilled it for to begin with.) And a Williams receiver sight.

She got quite the sight plane now
As long as my sight doesn't fall apart, it should shoot even better. I think. Gonna try and get out with it tomorrow.

Good work on the sights. I suspect if you make sure you snap the gun closed each time, exactly the same, the longer sight radius will help and tighten the groups.
